Not a very complex game with many units becoming obsolete the more you unlock but nevetheless this game has the right mix of 90s sci-fi, a decent soundtrack and fun gameplay. Sadly the factions are very similar to each other and share the same campaign (starting postion). Which is why once you have played through one campaign, you've pretty much seen everything the game contains. Regardless, the time you have with atleast one playthrough is well spent. It takes a bit of time to get used to the action point system and learning the units, this is why I recommend watching the first few episodes of a walkthrough of this game before you make a decision on buying it. I can't comment on the GOG version, as I am using the disc version, which is not easy to get running on non 16-bit compatible operating systems. Nevertheless, I managed to get it working perfectly on Windows 10 except for the videos, as the video codec is missing and I couldn't figure out where to get one for that works. In the case that someone is interested, here is how I did it: - Set up a virtual windows 98 machine, using an emulator such as PCem in order to install the game. The setup.exe sadly only works on systems with 16-bit support. - Move the installed files from your virtual system to the actual Windows 10 installation. - Look up the registry entries for Fallen Haven under Windows 98 and manually recreate them on Windows 10. You can find them under Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\I-Magic\Fallen Haven\1.0 - Now when launching the game, it will complain, that some dlls are missing in the Windows\system32 and WOW64 folders. Search the missing dlls on your disc and copy them where the program tells you to. - Finally, set the game's compatibility to 8-bit colors (256), execute at a resolution of 640 x 480 and run as admin Congrats, your disc version of Fallen Haven should now be working on Windows 10.
As someone who only played Hearts of Iron III before this one when it comes to Paradox games, I have to say the game is a lot of fun. That is as long as it is working properly. The game mechanics are great and getting started with one of the smaller scenarios was blast. Halfway through the grand campain however, I managed to corrupt my safe game in such a way, that some of my armies which are besieging rebel occupied cities stopped gaining any siege progress. when ordering my forces to retreat from one of these cites, the game crashes. I can't say that I regret the time I spent with the game and I still plan on playing some of the smaller scenarios but be aware that there is a good chance that you wil encounter the same bugs when playing the grand campaign. On a side note, the game's soundtrack does not play under Windows 10. As it is just a single track, that repeats all the time, I wrote a batch file that starts playing the music, starts the game and closes the music player after each session.
