I'm am so DONE with these procedurally generated, looter games. Takes FOREVER to grind enough resources to make any meaningful progress. The player is under-rewarded for success and over-punished for failure. These games just feel like they're testing my patience rather than my tenacity or resourcefulness.
Couldn't get used to the controls. Which is weird because the controls aren't that different from other platformers coming out these days. Hard to explain without the reader actually playing it themselves. Just doesn't feel right.
A pleasant surprise. I don't even remember how I stumbled upon it, but I'm glad I did. Great story, solid gameplay, and all-around polish make it a goodie for your digital shelf. A bit on the easy side, but not without it's challenging bits. Any deaths/frustrations I had were clearly my fault, so it's very well balanced and thought out. I actually miss these types of games I could finish in a weekend. Short, but enjoyable. I say check it out.
This could have been a fun game. But the awkward, confusing, sometimes irresponsive controls ruin what could have been a hidden gem of a game. Unfortunately, I spent more time being frustrated and yelling "NO, THE OTHER WAY!"; "That's not what I wanted" more often than not. Maybe next time Tate Media, maybe next time.
It's janky, obtuse, and more often than not, boring. It's more fun to watch on youtube than it is to actually play. Don't understand the comparisons to Fatal Frame. Other than Asian setting, ghosts, and cameras, it's nothing like it. Fatal Frame had great level design and challenging gameplay. DreadOut is extremely difficult to understand where you're supposed to go and what to do. It's worsened by it's janky engine where you can be doing what the games wants you to, but some odd glitch or whatnot will simply prevent any forward progress; leading to restarting, taking a long walk to where you were and trying again and hoping it works this time. There are folks who love this game and I would LOVE to love this game. But it's too much of a frustrating bore for me to give it approval. Go watch a let's play or a walkthrough instead. You can't edit out the dullness from your playthrough, but they can.
