Dr. Fetus' Mean Meat Machine DEMO

Puyo Puyo clone with BLOOD AND MURDER

So, well, as a game it's clearly it's a puyo puyo clone. I'm fine with that. They then decided to make it different from Puyo puyo by adding stuff like hazards and stuff like that to "spice things up" but in the end I felt that it's just complicate things and sometimes can be quite annoying especially the one hit death from the sawblade forcing us to restart the level. So is the game worth playing? Well, if you're okay with some frustrations from added obstacles to your typical puyo puyo challenge, then go ahead get this game. But if you already handle enough from just basic puyo puyo gameplay, then grab actual puyo puyo. Puyo puyo.

Broken Sword: Director's Cut

Replaying this again

I actually played this game years ago when it's still CD ROM format. Not finishing it because I'm super confused with a puzzle but I still loving it so much. Here I am playing the remastered version, it's still the best, but as older gamer, I noticed a lot of cons along with pros. pros: Amazing artworks, both the original and the added on remastered stuff Enough puzzle and stuff we can click on, but not overwhelming to us Also there's no pixel hunting, always a huge plus The note system helped so much in dealing with some complex puzzles Great characters with amazing voice acting and great dialogues Puzzles are well made, with few exceptions cons: The story is not the best. Sure the premise was interesting but the writing is kinda amateur-ish, the dialogues were pretty good though Since I'm older, I noticed a lot of plotholes The remastered/extra version felt tacked on. Also they kinda ruined it a bit by adding a slide puzzle (a sin in P&C adventure game) I guess this is budgetary, but why not making new animation for the cutscenes? The old animation wasn't smooth at all (how about remaster it again in 2020s? I'm willing to pay, I love this game) So yeah, that's my review, one of many that mounted heaps of praises for this game.

The Journey Down Trilogy

Become one of the classics

I remember playing Journey Down YEARS ago when it's still a free demo and the character is heavily pixelated. I was impressed and loving it but sadly I forget to check if the game is out and I only find out that it got a complete three chapters of story during a sale event. So I grabbed the game and played it and I must say that this is a recommended adventure game for both P&C adventure game buffs and people who want to try P&C adventure game for the first time. Pros: No pixel hunting Maybe one of the sin of adventure game that been done in many P&C adventure games are putting an item with only one or two pixels of clickable area, thus giving the game a bad artificial difficulty. But no pixel hunting here no sirree! Amazing art choice Using African masks for the characters and Colorful backdrop in chapter 3 made the game shine. It felt like classic Broken Sword that doesn't shame itself from using colorful backdrops Music I just love the music. The change from mostly jazzy tunes in chapter 1 and 2 to a more rock and roll in chapter 3 need some time to get used to but it fit the plot of chapter 3. Cons: The recording quality for voice acting In chapter 1 and 2 the recording quality can be pretty bad. Some characters are recorded louder while other characters I can't really get what they say. I guess they record them separately without setting some recording standard and probably different recording equipment. Chapter 3 isn't that bad, I guess they finally found their groove in that chapter. Thank God for default text. I can't buy the music from GOG Look guys, I understand you guys want me to buy your music from bandcamp. But isn't it far more convenience to sell it here too so I don't have to make a new account? In Summary Go get the game, it's worth your time!

Puzzle Agent 2

A let down from the 1st one

I gave the 1st a 5 star review because it fill my puzzle itch and surprised me with its sound design. But the sequel was a letdown with how the story became too simplified and the ending felt like it's cobbled together haphazardly and duct taped. Even many puzzles were disappointing because they were too simple or easy. One of the puzzle failed spectacularly because it's using American coins without giving us non Americans proper explanation and hint (they even redraw the coins from the original shape so maybe some Americans are clueless too). The story was a mess as well. It felt like the writer want to make something but got restrained by its E rating. Some characters personality and loyalty was a mess. The sherrif act as if he's going to do something bad to us but then mellowed out suddenly and let us check his files? The lady who tried to murder us suddenly became a big help to us? Oh and adding a new character only to stop her plot mid game as if the writer don't know what to do with her after we solved some of her puzzles. What's the point? And did the writer completely forget about us trying to find missing people? 3 Stars, at least I'm generous enough because the sound design is still good and the trippy part was kinda entertaining? But it's not enough for extra stars.

Puzzle Agent

Praise for the Sound design

For a whimsical style game with surprisingly interesting graphic that proof to be quite versatile even after 11 years this game is excel the most in one thing that surprised me the most: The sound design. I mean, yeah, it's supposed to be a funny looking game with funny looking protagonist that supposed to be in a silly adventure, but the sound design was so good and created some scary moments that many horror games fail to create without relying on cheap jumpscare. Oh and the puzzles were (mostly) great, some can be quite challenging while some are more lightweight and gave us more time to relax between difficult puzzles. But there's one puzzle that didn't give me adequate hint and I failed the first try because I thought it was sequential and not simultaneous (the lift one). Sadly since it's been 11 years I guess it will never be fixed. Also full 5 starts because there's no slide puzzle. Bless you developer of this game.

Circle Empires

Simple game, good for short fun

This game is not what we call a complicated RTS. It's simple, easy to learn and felt a bit casual. Even more challenging lords still felt pretty easy. This game is perfect for quick gaming session during lunch hour or for your kids as their 1st time RTS before moving on to more complicated RTS like Command and Conquer series or Warcraft 2 or KKND.

Farlanders Prologue

Promising game, but annoying features

When I started the game it looks very promising. But the moment it reached terraforming the game crumbled and no longer fun. First of all we're given 3 weirdly shaped terraforming options that act more like a tetris piece. It's fine if the terraforming don't affect existing building but in this case, it IS messing with buildings. The game made us build a meticulous and complicated system to keep the colony running but one wrong terraforming pretty much ruined the whole system. had to restart several times even during tutorial because I can get the right terraforming pattern or the colony was planned on specific position it's pretty much a dead end because I can't destroy them or risk running out of resources in several turns.

Downwell

Better than the Mobile version (with C)

So previously I purchased this game for Android version, but my impression of that version is that the touch control is pretty lackluster and my sausage fingers and thumbs are covering many part of the screen and it can be very awkward sometimes. But the PC version, with controller support, is a whole different beast. Having a more tactile input is heaven and earth difference between this and the mobile version. With part of the screen no longer covered with my thumb I can see clearly now and I can move around, dodge and fire with better precision and there's way less accidental inputs that might ruin the gameplay. The game itself is quite fun to play. The enemies are challenging but you will get used to them as you progress. My negatives are the whole screen can be pretty small, maybe because it was designed first for mobile. Also the annoying sideway flying bats.

Unepic

Got this on steam, willn't getit for GOG

I usually have my own policy to review games that I bought from GOG and played it. But I hate this game so much I felt the need to drop this review as a warning for people with the same point of view as mine. First of all the two stars are for the Metroidvania style gameplay. It was decent and nothing bad with it, it's average and acceptable for this kind of genre. But it's the only redeeming point of this game. Now for the bad: I understand that they want this game to be different in story thus why it's called "UNepic" but I felt that they went a bit too far with stupid crass jokes and cringy juvenile humor that obviously was written by 30 something guy who no longer remember his junior and senior high years and and thought that their humor related to sex jokes and dude bro style. This is the equivalent of that meme of Steve Buschemi wearing a hoodie and carrying a skateboard and saying "How do yo do my fellow kids" Also dropping an avalanche of references also destroy the immersion. Once again the out of touch writer of this game felt that dropping all those references will make younger people think this game is cool? What is this? 1980s PSA? In summary, dropping stupid jokes and references is not the pinnacle of good writing, and this game dropped the ball by hiring a guy who have the same writing skill as Benny and Raffi Fines. I made a mistake purchasing this game on Steam, so I will not buy this game on GOG.
