Those looking for a bit of good old Arcade Action - WALK AWAY! This is NOT the Gauntlet of your youth!!! I knew this when I first purchased thsi game on Steam... And I was prepared for that... Graphically the game looks stunning, but my first play was full of issues... The game was FAR TOO DARK, Lagged to buggery despite having a laptop that more than met teh minimum specs... And teh game was just WAY TOO DAMN HARD!!! There was only one way to play and that was Online Multiplayer... END OF!!! Basically, Warner Bros / Arrowhead were REALLY PUSHING the Online Multiplayer aspect... I heard about teh update - But having already had a refund from Steam - I was not about to jump into buying again until I had tried the game to see if it had improved... I do NOT condone Piracy at any time - But as I could not find a demo anywhere... I am sad to say a Torrent was the only way to go! And... WOW! What a difference! An Actual STORY! Graphics are BRIGHTER! Controls more fluid... Everything is BETTER BY A MILE!!! (This was literally try before I buy by the way... Trust me they have a WONDERFUL bit of DRM to make sure you don't pirate - I know what it is but I am not going to reveal!!! I will only say you can play ONE LEVEL and thats it!!! Great Job Arrowhead!!! Loved it! Great bit of Trolling!) The Bad Points... Its obvious really - Online is the best way to play... WHICH SUCKS! I am not sure if there is a Local Option as I have no one to test it with - but i SURELY HOPE SO! Very Happy with the updated version and WILL BE REPURCHASING - Great Job Arrowhead - You listened and altered the game! You bought me back into the fold... To keep that going though - Seriously.... CONSIDER DEMOS!!! Should not need to pirate to get a taste of what you have to offer!
Way back when Microsoft actually had a Software House (Microprose) I got this beauty for my Atari ST. This is the Classic DOS original, and perfectly preserved... Point and click, move your mouse about... Controls could not be more simple but making the top spot is going to be. If you think this game looks a little more familiar or just want better Graphics, You could just go out and Buy "Sid Meier's 'PIRATES!' an why not... He worked on this original... And the Maps and bits you get in the Goodies with the GOG release can help you with finding the treasure (Seriously! The maps are 100% accurate!) While the newer version does have far more action throughout, you cannot fault this classic.
I do not care what anyone says, long before I ever hard of Metal Gear Solid... There was THE DARK PROJECT. Genre Defining, The Stealth Em Up as I called it was started HERE! I first got the game many years back, an long after its initial release - And from the start I was hooked! So what makes the game so special? Graphics are just the right side of "Good" given the age - Yes there is a lot of Polygons and stuff, but they work and work well... In fact if you were to put MGS next to TDP you would see just how far the Genre had come since those early days. The Story is excellent... There are dozens of locations to explore even if the Enemies are limited (But hell! That's a complaint with most games...) Its dark brooding medieval setting just adds to the atmosphere and makes this a perfect addition to anyone's game collection who fancies a break from the usual Blast Everything in Sight jobs. Issues: NOthing Major unless you play on a more modern PC - This game does NOT like Compatibility Mode so is useless on Windows 7 - Or was... Then came GOG! Now the game is playable once more and I am back to having the full collection (I have the Third on DVD Rom and the Originals on a Sold Out Double Sided Disc but can only play the Second...) - If you have never played before - Come and accept the challenge, Beating this game is hard... Mastering it is EVEN HARDER!
