The game was pretty disappointing for a lot of people on release as it takes a largely distant approach which is far less intimate than the first game. However, I find myself truly enjoying the game for what it is. Though I knew what I was getting into when I purchased and played the game as I acquired it well after initial release so the expectations vs reality differed for me, perhaps.
I find this game to be visually stunning. The art style is wonderful to look at, the menus intuitive and the mechanics enjoyable. While the campaign isn't expansive as it only seems to contain two primary missions right now they are long and provide plenty of gameplay. With a lot of updates since last I played it has been enjoyable to come back to. If you're into the style and city builders similar to FrostPunk in style but perhaps easier then I definitely recommend.
I was pretty excited about the concept of Tyranny when it first came out but as I have a habit of failing to complete many games I suspected the full price might be a bit much and waited until it went on sale. Having finally convinced myself to pick it up as I couldn't wait to play it any longer I got it for $38. I try to get $1 / hour played to justify the purchase to myself. While I think I finished the game with about 30 hours under my belt I will definitely go back and play it again. Honestly, I dont think any other game - even those I consider to be my favorites - have ever made me pause just to think about how excited I was. Literally, giddy at how the story was playing out. I was absolutly enamored with the it, the characters, the development of my main character. I have considered that maybe the game ended too early I also think that it ended at the perfect moment. The pace was perfect, the game didn't have me grind out levels to get my characters to a playable state but provided so much time to enjoy the title. I often sat for 10s of minutes at a time just reading the dialogues and chatting with my companions to learn about them. The lore alone within this new IP was spectacular. This game, Tyranny, has instantly become one of my favorite games ever and I look forward to more works from Obsidian. Gameplay was great, the story was perfect for me and the lore was some of the best i've read. Absolutely recommend to anyone who likes a story driven game. <3
