story/graphics good, everything else bad

Pros: The story is a recombination of lots of different space sci-fi movies/books themes that comes together in a (sometimes) original way Voice acting is decent Cons: Very limited oppertinues to interact with main character Walking Simulator Puzzle-game kinda like Myst or 7th Guest SLOW camera movement No save game feature: was not clear if my game was being saved or not the whoile time... (it was) Puzzles are either very simple (copy this number from one side of the screen to the other is like 50% of them) or totally uninitiative treasure hunting elements of the UI or for notes can be very frustrating One of those trendy "unclear endings" where the writers are too lazy to even try to make the end / story make any sense. Your choices MAKE ZERO difference to the story, you are just watching it happen no matter what you do Despite the fact that you control the camera as the ship's AI, you have that powered ripped away from you every 10 minutes for some cutscreen that you could easily have watched with your own camera angles and not lost that immersion. some buggy face animations that completely take you out of the game (unacceptable given that you spend a lot of the game staring one person more or less in the fact). Conclusion: I love this genre of space thriller, but even if it is on sale, it just isn't worth the time to beat it. Just not that fun, even if at times interesting and even beautiful. I just don't get the praise for this game, other than people who like the story so much they didnt notice the other flaws OR maybe it is just being hyped-up by all the usual suspects in gaming "journalism" because of the female protagionist. There are a lot of better sci-fi space video games out there that you should play before this one... All 3 of the Mass Rffect Games, Galatic Civilzation 3, Offworld Trading Company, Alien Isolation, Deadspace 1-3, Prey, Rimworld, Star Control 2 remake, Portal 1-2, Half-life (all), Star Wars: KOTOR (all).

STASIS: Deluxe Edition

EXCELLENT Space Sci-fi Dystopian Horror

Writing was great, no woke bullshit, just good old-fashioned great storytelling. Game kept me curious all the way through. Voice acting was pretty good, love the SA accent on the Doctor.... puzzles are logical, not too hard and not too easy... It kept me immersed the whole time, there was only ONE point at which I really got taken out of the game and that was the stasis pod puzzle on medical... the whole game trains you that the information around the edge of the PDAs and LOGS is unimportant (I checked the first few but it was just nonsense) and then suddenly you need to look EXACTLY in that place around the frames of the PDAs and even then, one of the solutions is impossible find - that, along with the "refining process" around the same time in the game were so abstract, the first I think is almost impossible to solve without peaking at the web and the other thing with the "refinement" of the thing needed for the puzzle was SO abstract you either randomly combine different objects together with themselves / environment for an hour or just look it up. These two things stand out SO much just because the rest of it was so good. if they could patch these things up at this point, but IMHO it would take a near perfect game that much closer to perfect.

Starcom: Nexus

simple Star Control 2 w cool ship editor

Great game with good sci-fi story-telling, cool ship design, beautiful light and space, effects and associated research tree and in my experience as of GOG version in August of 2022 - ZERO BUGS, no idea what that other guy was talking about. The planet surveys get a bit repeatative, but not nearly as much as you think for how many there are. If you like sci-fi or space games, play this, you will like it. If you like anything with a ship builder, you will like this. Even if you don`t, you will still probably enjoy it enough to play through its 20-ish hours of gameplay.

Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure

another political indie dev... sigh...

So the game looked cool and I went to check out their website to see what sort of a team they were as I like supporting small developers. I found this prominently featured on their website: "We value a diversity of opinions and positions as much as any other type of diversity. However, some 'opinions' are dumb and wrong, and bigots don't have a place at DigiTales." Translation: No one to the right of Karl Marx is allowed to work here. If they actually meant the real meaning of the word bigot: "persons who are intolerant of different opinons, especially regarding religion" that would be great. But we all know that when they say bigot, they are not concerned about making Christians feel welcome there, what they really mean is that anyone who holds views different from their "progressive" views are not welcome ... ironically enough, making them actual bigots. I have experienced this type of work environment enough to know that I do not want to support it financially. We have enough of these "PC babies" working in the gaming industry pushing out the real talent, we don't need yet another team full of them.

Censored

The remake is censored ... I LOVED the original, but they ruined it with censorship. Sad day for fans.

Play as a Wamen!

Yet another game that has a 95% male audience playing as a woman... yawn... Maybe they should listen to their market research and not to all the "game" journalists demanding affirmative action in video games (and changing their reviews accordingly). But it´s actually a great help when deciding what to buy... if you know that a company doesn`t care enough about their audience to have them play as a protagonist character that they do not identify with, then 9 times out of 10 you can be sure that they take your other concerns as gamers about things like DLC and gameplay just as serious. Don`t get me wrong, when the writing is good (e.g Detriot: Become Human or Alien: Isolation) it works great and you really can get sucked into the story... but when you have a person controlling a little robot run around the screen where writing and story is minimal, the fact that you make that person a wamen is just a gimmick. It would have taken all of a couple hours of programing and another day to record a 2nd voice actor`s lines to allow you to play as a man as well. The fact that they didn`t do that tells you all you need to know.

Ultimate General: Civil War

One of the best games I ever played

You know how sometimes you get so focused on finishing a game that it almost starts to feel like work? Well, that NEVER happened in this game - 100+ hours in and I was still loving it. I normally hate micro-managing, but in this game, it was fun! The historical elements, the men, the weapons, the locations, it was just perfect. Just buy it! The only reason not to buy this game would be if you hate the civil war or if you hate strategy - real-time war game mixes.

Sunless Sea

Game mechanics ruined by poor writing

Everything in this game is written in the same way that that not really-smart-enough-friend-to-be-doing-would-he-is-doing-in-life would write stories, academic articles or just articulate himself: With a bunch of made-up words and flowery language that make no sense and obscures any chance of understanding what he means ALL the while he pretends to himself that this confused mess is a "stylistic choice".... and OH YEA, in a game with perma-death, this gibberish of which I speak DOES NOT CHANGE, you have to click through the same annoying jibber-jabber everytime you restart and run through all the basics at the start ... and then EVERY SINGLE little QUEST ITEM IN THE SAME PLACES OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Imagine if in FTL the writing was like: "Oh my! While pulsating our ship through the innards of the quandaries of faster than light dispensation, we have found a spuregelmonkee in the tentrills of this lickamapoo! Shall we vivisect the dingy-ma-ra for FUEL or throw it overboard, floating away into the darkness of the lurb as we harvest its SCRAP and a single whisp of space smoke." AND THE FTL MAP NEVER CHANGED. AND ALL THE SAME QUESTS WERE IN THE SAME PLACES. AND YOU HAD TO READ THIS TEXT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN AT THE SAME EXACT POINTS. AND THERE WERE A BUNCH OF MONSTERS WITHIN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES THAT COULD TWO- or THREE- HIT YOU. AND EVEN THE MOST BASIC UPGRADES FOR YOUR SHIP (WHICH STILL SUCK) COST MORE THAN YOU COULD AFFORD AFTER HOURS OF GRINDING... If you can get all that in your head - then you understand what this game is like. The trailer proclaims that some game "journalist" somewhere (I assume a close relation of the game designer) says it is the "The most delicious writing in all of gaming" ... replace delicious with pretentious and you got it. Honestly, the fact that they quoted such a pretentious try-hard line like that for their marketing should tell you all you need to know. Which sucks, because the actual game looks like it could be fun.

Phoenix Point

Look at the cover

When you see a butch women and a black guy on the cover of a game (and the third person is wearing a helmet), you can be sure that more time and money was wasted on woke design and marketing then was spent to actually make a decent game. Nothing like actively deciding not to appeal to your customer base which is 90% white male... lol... get woke and go broke...
