Against the Storm

Extremely Clever Concept

I did not go into this game really knowing how it would be, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. A survival city builder that is also a roguelite/like? It works better than you would think. My main issue with most roguelikes is that they get repetitive and boring, but this twist on it has made it easier to push past that. The situation for each settlement is different and there are many ways to go about preparing and building. Each race has it's own wants/needs and there are many more things that keep things interesting.

Astrox Imperium

Chill

As someone who admittedly does not really care for space games and has never played any of the ones the dev drew inspiration from; this game is really fun. I enjoy the chill atmosphere and just being allowed to do what I want and not feel harried. I like doing the tasks and missions for money to upgrade and train skills. It's a very satisfying gameplay loop and I would definitely reccomend it.

Tangle Tower

Very fun

I absolutely adore a game that lets me look at all the little details in a room, even if they aren't all relevant. The main characters' banter and commentary is A+. Piecing together all the mysteries is A+ (so much so that I neglected to go to sleep when I meant to because I wanted to get to the bottom of it all). A really enjoyable game. Worth every penny.

Eastward

Unplayable

I can't get this game to launch and apparently it just doesn't work on higher resolutions? Not awesome to be honest. Can't reccomend.

Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure

Really nice. A true detective game.

I enjoyed being given the chance to figure everything out without it being impossible like in many other games. The story was really good and more positive than I think I expected. I was constantly expecting to be punished for trusting people but it always turned out well in the end and I was happy about that. Many choices had nice small effects going forward which is also rare in choice based games. The art, music, and everything else just really made for a great experience. Highly reccomended!

Whispers of a Machine

Unique

I think this game is amazing. I personally enjoyed the forensic aspect of the game and personally would have enjoyed more of it. Though I understand these types of games are usually either story driven or puzzle drive and I'm still happy with the story driven focus. I think it's really amazing how the personality spectrum plays into the game and how there are many different ways to solve a puzzle depending on what powers you develop based on the spectrum. In my experience the personality aspect usually only affects dialogue and there is always the same solution to a puzzle no matter what choices you make. So you can see how this is revolutionary to me. A truly fantastic game. The twists really caught me by surprise or I figured them out but didn't want to believe they were true. I definitly reccomend the game whether you are a regular to P&C games or not.

Megaquarium

Addictive

Megaquarium is very simple compared to other animal management sims, but for some reason it is still enjoyable to play. It has just enough difficulty to keep you on your toes in the campaign and it's very fun just watching the fish exist in your little box you've made for them. (I don't think fish care about decoration but I sure do) It's a very relaxing and somewhat easy-going management sim that I think anyone can enjoy.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd

A curveball

This game was hard to get into for me since it deviates from the linear story of the first two in the trilogy. I wasn't really able to make myself care about the oddball priest that we barely got to know in 2. Other fans encouraged me to keep going and so I did. It's definitely not a smooth follow up from Trails in the Sky 2, but in it's own right the game is good. The story becomes very heavy and more serious even compared to the first two and it was surprising but not unwelcome to see. If you liked the first two and don't mind a spin-off then I think this game is very fun to play.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC

Great Sequel

I very much like how this game follows closely after the first. The story doesn't lose any impact between the first and the second. The combat, story, and world building are still A+ and I cannot reccomend the entire Trails in the Sky trilogy enough.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

A Pleasant Surprise

I didn't really buy this game expecting to like it, but I really did. It's simple, but in it's simplicity it allows more complex characters and interactions...at least I believe so. Gameplay-wise, it is not a difficult game and learning the combat is actually quite fun to me. I like all the different crystal formations you can use and the different skills they create. The story is a lot more than it seems. It's very deep and very intricate. I also enjoy all the subquests and side things you can do in this game. They all add to the immersion of the entire purpose of the story. I definitly think if you enjoy really good and classic JRPGs then this game and the two in the Trails in the Sky set are a must play.
