The Uncertain: Last Quiet Day

Good Short Game

The Uncertain: Last Quite Day is a short, good game with a few quirks The story, characters, and voice acting are good. The game is more of a walking simulator as inventory management is addressed automatically. There are barely more than 2 or 3 items in the inventory at any one time and the game selects the appropriate item for the puzzles. There are of course the standard fare of logic puzzles with clues close by. The one music puzzle I could not solve even with the clue eventually started giving me the answer. (A nice unexpected touch.). Note: The Uncertain: Last Quite Day has only one SAVE slot and the game saves automatically. I did encounter a few other issues but believe they are the result of my computer setup. Overall I give the game a solid “B”. The information in this and the next paragraph was not used to critique the game but is provided for anyone using Linux. I played this game using the Linux distribution “POP!_OS” (Non-Cosmic variant) and Lutris. I have a 4070 TI graphics card, an Intel i9-9900K processor, 32 Gigs of RAM, a Hyperkin “Duke’ controller, and a Logitech keyboard and mouse. I was unable to use the controller and used the keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately the game did not allow me to customize the keyboard settings. Another issue I encountered is the game started freezing in the last chapter. The game ran fine until then. Tried switching between WINE and PROTON runners (latest version as of the date of this posting 09/2025) but the game would freeze (randomly) no matter which runner was selected. Lowering the resolution from 4K to 1080p seemed to help but could have been “luck of the draw”. Last note for Linux users, I was not able to obtain Trophies if that is important to you. (Not important to me.) The root cause could very well be my lack of knowledge configuring Lutris. I’m new to Linux but wanted to share my experiences for any other Linux “newbies” out there.

Ankh 3: Battle of the Gods

An Okay Game

The best of the Ankh games. Characters feel like “familiar” acquaintances by the 3rd game. Has the same look and feel as the first two games - graphics are the same. Puzzles were logical (some more challenging than others) and generally better than those in the second game - which was the low mark of the series. There were not any problems with running the game. The game launched and ran as expected. Although there were a few instances where the text did not match the spoken dialogue.

Hoa

Beautiful, Beatiful Game and Soundtrack

5 Star - Highly recommended! What a wonderful and gorgeous story guiding Hoa back to her people. Hoa is a game that brings joy and optimism! The soundtrack is OUTSTANDING and fits the game so well. (I immediately purchased the soundrack after completing the game.) Thank you to the developers and all involved for sharing this game and story with us!

Ankh - Anniversary Edition

An Average Graphical Adventure Game

This review is being written after finishing the game. Ankh is an older graphical adventure game written and designed as a homage to even older graphical adventure games (think Lucas Arts). The game has a humorous script. The puzzles are mostly well thought out and straight forward.
However the game does have some downsides. The overall story does not really make much sense. The cast, including the main character, are rather bland and forgettable. The screen resolution kept switching between widescreen and boxed whenever a cutscene was encountered. There are a lot of items to click upon but are not needed and are not added to the inventory. Makes one wonder about the need to come back to use the item again later. In most cases, the answer is No. There are 3 games in the series. This review is only for the first game. I do intend to play the other 2 games in the series and review each of them. Bottom line, if you are a fan of graphical adventure games, like I am, the game is worth picking up on sale. Just do not expect a memorable adventure.

Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure

Classic Point and Click Adverture Style

Gibbous is a fun, well-written game with excellent voice acting. The puzzles are logical and straight forward. There are a lot of puns and referrences for us geeks. The game intends and succeeds in being a homage to the classic Lucas Arts adventures games of old. If you are a fan of point and click adventure games, you owe yourself a favor and purchase the game. The only downside is the ending as the story seems unfinished - part one of a two part game. (Waiting for a Gibbous 2). With the exception of one or two lines not being voiced, or the voice being skipped, the game ran without any issues.

Silence

Great Game - But Flawed

Silence reminds me of the old joke about a sign in a store which says: Quality, Selection, Service, Price - Choose any Three. Silence has Beatiful graphics, WONDERFUL music, Excellent Characters (and English Voice Actors / Actresses), and a Great - but ultimately flawed - story. The problem with the story is there are too many loose ends by the time the credits appear. It is as if the developers purposely did not finish the whole story so as to be able to create a Silence 2 game. Everything else about the game - including the story itself - is Top Notch! One item to note is the last Game Save occurs just BEFORE the player's final decision is made in the game. So it is possible to replay the last bit of the game and select the other alternative. (Doing so will allow the player to get both ending "Achievements" - instead of just one - for those who care about such things.) In addition, seeing the outcome of both choices does help with providing a more complete picture of the story. The music is very relaxing and well done. I whole-heartedly recommend spending a little more to purchase the soundtrack / version with the soundtrack. No bugs nor issues were encountered while installing or playing the game. The key specification for my computer are: i9-9900K, 32 Gigs of RAM, GTX 1080 with 8 Gigs, Windows 10, and two SSD drives. This game is Highly Recommended despite not all of the loose ends being addressed. I will be among the first to purchase Silence 2. ( I'm keeping my fingers crossed there will be a Silence 2.) Enjoy the game!

FAR: Lone Sails

It's About the Journey

I just finished playing "Far: Lone Sails" and wanted to share my impression of the game. This wonderful game reminds the player that life is about the journey and not about the destination. The games does so using minimalist art (think Journey - the game, not the band.) The contrast between the dark and dreary background scenary with the protoganist reminds the player there is hope in the world despite the dark times. The musical score is excellent and fits the story perfectly. Pros: Excellent story despite there not being a story. Excellent music. Excellent, minimalist graphics Some puzzles require thought but are not difficult. No bugs or problems with the game. Short - but the right length for the game. Cons: Autosaves - User can not select when to save. Some objects are much too small to determine what they are (Played at 1440p probably better at a lower resolution). Storage / Inventory control of in game objects. Personal Peeve - This is the type of game that does not need Achievements. I wholly recommend this game. Cheers!

Papetura

Beautiful, Handcrafted Game

This creator of this game made the characters and background out of real, physical paper and did a beautiful job. The game mechanics are simple and easy to figure out. (Just know the game autosaves and you'll be fine with the Menu System.) The puzzles are varied and well thought out. There is a fun hint system to help the player get started / or when stuck. The only downside is the game is very short. A recommended game to those who love adventure games!
