I feel very sorry for CDProjektred, as they made this game during the worst of the time of the global pandemic - everyone across the world was hoping it would be the holy grail of games. People looked forward to it as though it was the only thing that could save them from covid. A true gamer would understand that these people put their heart and soul into making this game as incredible as they could, and would feel ashamed of all the other gamers who joined the negative bandwagon just because they liked feeling like part of the crowd. This company made ONE true mistake, and that was shipping it out on old consoles. If they had just said, look, you need to buy a new console to play this game. SO MUCH HATE would have been avoided. But they didn't. And you know why? Because this company actually cares about the gamers that play their games. And it wanted to try, even when it seemed hopeless, to get this game on the old consoles. I These people built something truly great and magnificent here, but they are getting crapped on by the media- and it has nothing to do with the quality of the game really. It's just that people like to join a hype train when they see it. People giving negative reviews give absolutely no consideration to the fact that these people released what might end up being one of the greatest games of our generation DURING A PANDEMIC. Everyone was expecting this game to be the end all-be all. But that's just not reasonable. They made a mistake. They apologized. They are working to make it better. Not many game companies do that these days. I for one am thrilled with what I played. Cyberpunk might not have been what I was expecting, but when I let go of my expectations and just allowed myself to play the game this company intended me to play, I found a story so legendary that I have no doubt it will go down in history as one of the greatest rpgs of all time.
I am a big fan of Jrpgs, but the stereotypical characters and writing usually makes me feel like I am watching a sub-par anime. I was hesitant to play this game at first, being a JRPG looking game with English voice actors. As I am one of those snobs that likes to play jrpgs in Japanese. I am so sorry I waited so long to get this game just because of that. This game threw me for a loop, as I was just cringing at the mentioning of someone wielding a giant double bladed sword - but then I realized, holy crap, this is funny. This game is about making fun of the genre, and it does so while at the same time captivating you with a story that hooks you in from the very start. I won't spoil anything here. I want to say I should have bought this game years ago, but I am happy to buy it now that it is DRM free here on GOG. Tired of DRM making my two thousand dollar computer chug like thomas the train.
