When I've tried this game in the past I never really got further than the first level. Maybe not even halfway through. I was immediately turned off by the difficulty. The game has a retro gory immature vibe to it that hides a lot of neat touches. The levels are really well designed and though the enemies and weapons aren't very interesting, the way that you progress is very interesting. The dynamite and flare guns create unique opportunities for clearing a room, but you have to be very careful how you use them. I would consider this an environmental puzzle survival game with how you have to conserve your ammo. Lots of fun if you're willing to do a lot of save scumming on the higher difficulties.
This game really scratches that customization itch. It's really fun to see what kind of beast of a ship you can make with the available credits you earn. This game is so good I don't know why it's free. But then again I might never have gotten it if it weren't, which would have been a shame. I love this already and have barely scratched the surface. Menus are a bit tricky with a controller in my case, but in game works great.
I have this game on steam from a humble monthly bundle so it was a bit of chance that I found it. I know the term rogue-like is over used, but it speaks to the replayability the game has. It's short, it's simple, but it's fun and frantic. If you're the kind of person who likes a horde of minions to do your dirty work then this game is for you.
