Coffee Talk

A chill, cozy experience

It should be noted that I haven't finished the game yet, but I wanted to give it a go as my first game review. I'll start with my favourite aspect of this game. To me, the overall game give that "Midnight Diner" feeling, the Netflix show. You basically make on the spot what a character asks you to, and you listen to their very human worries and drop some occasional simple, yet effective wisdom while respecting boundaries. It's only open at night, like the show! This game can be seen as a mix between visual novel and "puzzle", the puzzles being you making your customer's order based on the clues they give you. It's all click, and drag for the latte art. The stories themselves are interesting, it's fun to see fantasy characters archetypes in a modern world. It obviously talks about some hard topics like racism sometimes. Which is interesting. You can take your time reading the dialogues, and making the orders. There's no rush, no stress. You can even make latte art even though the customer didn't ask for it, though the control for it can be tricky, I'm not sure I fully understand how it works. But you don't have to paint Mona Lisa in a coffee mug so that's alright. At any time you can look at your ingame-phone to get info from the characters you met, their personality and what they like, consult the recipes, and even change the music from your coffee shop. The artstyle is on point, with pixelart being inspired by 80's/90's anime, and a soothing choice of colors for the decor. I like that you every character has their own custom phone reflecting their personality. So is the music, adding to the comfy atmosphere. I'd really enjoy an artbook and/or a soundtrack for it! So basically, it's a game I think that's worth a shot. At the very least, there's a demo for it.
