GOG - The UG-Gettysburg download is 1.8. It needs - Patch v1.09 that finalizes game content and optimizes AI . This is a very tactical and difficult game, and is good for players who are interested in strategy and the American Civil War. It is not Sid Meier's Gettysburg. It is not a "Total War" game. Knowing the history of Gettysburg, battles, and generals; can be helpful. I've been playing this for awhile now and I really like it. This isn't an easy push over kind of game. Don't go into this game thinking you are going rush right in and quickly win all these battles. It doesn't work like that. Real life isn't fair and war isn't fair. You'll need to play better then the AI in order to win battles. Don't be afraid to pull you armies off the field. You'll lose, but you'll live to fight another day. You should go through the game's tutorials and instructions. Also check out the manual and Youtube for - Ultimate General Gettysburg: Beginner Tutorials. If you make the mistake of walking right at the enemy (especially in the open) you will "each and every time" be slaughtered for it. You have to think quickly and plan. You have to use smart tactics here. Press the P key (pause) press the M key and look at the lay of the land. Your artillery is no good down behind a hill and/or behind buildings. Make sure you supply wagons are fairly close to your armies. Within the circle to deliver supplies. Ultimate General: Gettysburg was developed by Game Labs and designed by Nick Thomadis, known for his successful and popular “DarthMod” series. Check out Youtube - Ultimate General Gettysburg: Darth vs Agrippa (GRAND BATTLE) Youtube user - Agrippa Maxentius. there are others also. Ultimate General: Gettysburg uses - Smart AI Commanders. Ultimate General: Gettysburg does not use “AI gameplay cheats” because it does not need them. The game’s difficulty is accomplished only by nine distinctive AI personalities, each with their own advantages and special skills. AI Commanders are able to evaluate and gain tactical superiority in real time, reacting according to their different commanding skills, aggressively or defensively, heroically or cunningly and resemble different, competent human players. Each one of the AI generals is a formidable, non-scripted opponent who can actively try to flank you, secure strategic locations with artillery, keep reserves and reinforce areas that it attacks or defends. The AI will try to win the battle with tactics that fit to its personality. For example a defensive opponent may not attack ferociously in the first engagement and progressively advance its forces in the next battles. OK, for the time they came out, the graphics in Dracula - The Resurrection are pretty darn good. Actually they are quite beautiful. Some of the puzzles are difficult, but not to difficult. I enjoyed this game. I didn't have any problems playing it on Windows 7 Pro 64. I wondered around sometimes just looking at the graphics. It really is a beautiful game. I think the game was successful at being scary in parts. An enjoyable and beautiful point and click adventure.
Wolfenstein 3d & Spear of Destiny are like Wolfenstein 1 & 2. I don't know how many hours I spent going through the levels (corridors) of these games, but it was many. There was no internet in my area when this game first came out. I got the game, level editor, new levels, addons and etc, from a near by BBS. I was pretty much addicted to wolf3d & spear. I made lots of levels over the years and enjoyed playing those made by others. Wolf3d still has a large following and one can get everything from basic mods to total conversions. If you want to have even more fun with wolf3d, just visit some of those fan sites like - Wolfenstein 3D Dome. Over the years many newer games have be spawned from the ideas and design of Wolfenstein 3d. Even newer / more modern Wolfenstein games. Yes, the old wolf3d game is dated, but it is still lots of fun to play. The first computer I played wolf & spear on was a Tandy 286. I had added a soundcard, vga-card and svga monitor. Anyway, a real Good Old Game.
I'm glad to see this on GOG. I remember playing it back in the day. When I purchased my first used dos computer, I got a whole bunch of floppy disks with it. Among those disks were the Catacombs games. I really enjoyed the games and eventually went on to Wolf3D, Spear, Doom, Blood, Quake and etc, but it was the Catacombs games that got me started. Yes it is very basic and repetitive, but it is still fun. Take a nostalgic trip down memory lane .. Play Catacombs.
Back in the day, this game was one of the funnest games to play. Even the first old CGA version wasn't to bad. This version (Pirates Gold Plus) just doesn't work properly. For one thing, the controls aren't functioning correctly. I tried it a few times, but the unresponsiveness of the controls just make it impossible and not fun. When you are trying to sword fight, there is a definite unresponsiveness / delay that makes it impossible to sword fight and play the game. Very disappointing. Hopefully gog will fix this sometime and the game will be fun to play .. again! Until then, I'm going to try the Amiga version via emulation.
