I am a big fan of Warhammer 40 000 universe and lore so I deeply enjoyed playing this game but for a person not knowing what the hell is happening out there, Boltgun may be not the best choice. Pros: - Warhammer 40K aesthetics is where the game truly shines - I like every detail and appeciate getting to fight as a SON OF ULTRAMAR - Good old DOOM-like shooter, run and shoot, nothing more - Enemies die blasted and ripped to pieces with a lot of blood - very satisfying - Sound of guns is awesome - Design of bosses is awesome Cons: - Many of the enemies are just bullet sponges who can take a lot of punishments before finally dying - There aren't many enemy types, after the first campaign you will probably see nothing new - Bosses are very tough, but that's fine. What is more annoying is that they repeat constantly - there are 3 bosses in the game and you will have to fight them over and over again until the end. If you take out WH40K from the shooter you will get an average boomer shooter with spongy enemies and repetitive bosses, maybe in this case Prodeus will be a better take. But if you are a fan of the grim dark universe with neverending war - this is the game you will like, almost sure.
Around 45 hours have passed since I pressed "Play" for the first time and now The Sinking City is completed. If you love detectives you will probably like the game, if you love detectives and Lovecraftian horror you will probably love it. But there is a catch... Pros: - The city. Oakmont feels gorgeous, the overall abnormality of everything feels omnipresent, you cannot escape it but only to dive deep into it. - Main quests and some of the side quests. They are really interesting to follow, you never know what secrets you may uncover. - Detective system. Here you check every detail on a crime scene, you use your special powers to see more then you connect those details in your head. Boy, it feels very satisfying. Cons: - Open world. The city looks incredible but if you take a closer look you will notice that nothing happens... anywhere. The city feels like a empty shell. And it's big. And since you have to navigate it A LOT, it turns into going from one fast travel point to another. - Bullets as money. I love how it sounds but the game doesn't use this feature whatsoever. No trade happens anywhere, you find all you need when looting chests so this feature is unused. - Craft system is too unrestricted. By the end of the main quest you will have 6 guns, you can craft bullets and medkits on the go, even during the fight, so it basically means that you are almost invincible. You can survive 99.9% of fights which, to my mind, doesn't work well with the concept of Lovecraftian horror. - Some side quests. They are boring af, "read a note but kill monsters first" style. Repeat around 20 times. Conclusion: The Sinking City feels awesome and brings true joy with its uneasy atmosphere of overall madness, fascinating city, great detective system and captivating quests. Unfortunately, later the city turns out to be big but empty, some quests are very boring and fights bring no fun. You will enjoy the game for 10-20 hours but generally avoid staying in Oakmont for longer.
Oh boy, this game is really difficult to review because in this case I guess the less you know the better It's a shooter with rpg elements taken place in a grim dark future where there is only war (the lore was heavily inspired by WH40K). You play as a warrior-monk of some secret organisation-order and this order tries to sort out... things. When you start this game you have absolutely no clue about what's going on and tbh by the end of the game you feel pretty much the same as the plot here is quite convoluted. But that feel of not knowing anything really makes you push forward and uncover the whole story (but it may take a couple of tries) Overall atmosphere is gorgeous. The last time I felt something similar was when I played Morrowind. There is just so many things that are, well, alien to you, from language (in the game everyone speaks strange futuristic language which you cannot understand) to enemies, some locations and even the looks of people (and aliens) EYE has a tons of features which I could describe here but the review would be too long in this case. Let's just say that in the dark cyberpunk future you can become as close to the machine as you want. You can take you enemies in many different ways, not just by shooting but by using more sophisticated techniques (how about hacking enemy's minds and burn their brains out from afar?). However you should be ready that the game has some technical imperfections. Some locations are poorly optimized and will likely run slower that others, even if you have RTX 3090 and 666 gb of ram. but it's tolerable and far from being a deal breaker To sum it up, I recommend this game to anyone who wants to try something different than ordinary shooter and dive deep into weird grim world with even weirder plot and lots of game mechanics.
Excellent hack'n'slash platformer where I really got vibes from NES times. In this game you have to remember every single move you make, every single enemy and every flaw is your last one. Cyberpunk atmosphere is one of the best I've ever felt, locations look gorgeous. The music really adds up to the atmosphere. Hardcore mode (whick unlocks after completion of the game) is one of the most creative I've seen. It's not just New Game+ with uinlocked abilities. No, enemies from late game are now present from the very beginning. They are MUCH larger in numbers and they are located in a way to make you passing by as difficult as possible. Even some of the platforming sections are drastically changed! I had entirely diferent experience tearing through levels on hardcore and it was amazing I strongly recommend this game if you want challenge (and more challenge if you're into hardcore mode) and want a really well made cyberpunk game
This little arcade game is good to play for about 10-20 mins every day or so. Maps are generated randomly every day and each day you have some new pretty challenging set of maps to race through. However, if you stay for a little longer you will inevitably become bored quickly because despite that there are 25 levels in the game they are all 100% the same set of maps. The only thing that changes is challenges which you have to complete in order to get to the next level. After a couple of runs your interest diminshes rapidly. So, if playing for 10 to 20 mins every day it's 5/5 If playing just as any other game, it's 3/5 at best, so overall it's 4/5
I'm an all life fan of space and all things related to it and games are no exception. Buying this game I expected it to be like Elite Dangerous and, well, I indeed have similar impressions for it. Pros: 1) Space feels realistic, it's huge and empty enough so one can enjoy the view of it. I love this feeling in ED, that's why I find it so enjoyable. Although, I can fully understand those who are used to playing more action-packed spacesims with much shorter distances and less time to travel with nothing happening at all. 2) To be able to enjoy vast and empty space there gotta be something to stare at while one's flying. Lots of planets, asteroids and overall background look pretty good 3) There are about 10 plot lines in this game, each with different starting conditions so there is always something to go towards. Plots themselves vary in length and interest but overall they are ok. 4) Unlike other similar games, you can buy and place your own stations, making whole production complexes which will give you passive income. Cons: 1) Slow-paced gameplay. It goes down from point 1 in pros - great feel of space results in that you will spend most of the time flying in space with nothing happening around. This can be either boring or meditating, depending how much you like space itself. 2) Repetitiveness. There are a lot to do in this game but ultimately it goes down to grinding more money to do something (which is not bad on its own but for some plot line it's required to get like 400 million credits, which is A LOT, and getting ) 3) There is not much sense in different starting presets as they only change your starting sector and your ship/equipment and have no effect in the plots. There could be some character creator instead. Overall it's a good and enjoyable game with some repetitiveness which, I may say, is usual for this genre. If you like spacesims and you don't mind long and slow space travels then I definitely recommend giving this game a try.
Pros: - Guns are very fun to shoot with - Dual wielding. Double the gun - double the fun - Gorgeous dismemberments. Man, I love how enemies are blowing with lots of blood when I shoot them - Awesome soundtrack - Some secrets are really creative - No need to know the previous parts of Serious Sam Cons: - Most secrets are hidden in a very predictable way. There are no hidden doors, moving walls like in classic Sams (TFE and TSE) so after a couple of levels you can find most of the secrets without much struggle - No point in huge levels. There are a couple of them and at first I thought I would spend hell a lot of time to explore them inside and out but soon it became clear these levels are empty if you don't follow along the roads. The devs could make these levels like three times smaller and it would change nothing - No point in vehicles (except combine which had its own fun game segment). They are just a tool to get from point A to point B on a huge map. No interesting game segments including vehicles (ramming enemies on bike doesn't count) Neutral: - Performance. The game was a mess on launch, I couldn't even get it started. Some time later the devs brought patch 1.07 which made the game much more stable but I could achieve the most significant performance boost only by tweaking game config params (found some thread on gog and steam forums about it). Without it I still experience fps fluctuations - Legion system. Yeah it works but only in the first fight and maybe in the last one but in the rest of the game even on Serious difficulty most fights including not so many enemies as I personally expected. Good thing that in one of the patches the devs brought enemy multiplier option which can help to make Legion system to shine Overall, despite a couple of moments related to performance and huge levels I'm very happy with the new Serious Sam. If you like horde shooters with cool guns I suggest you taking a look at this title even if you haven't played previous parts
