Like, I guess I got it cause it was cheap. It's completely unfun and just a chore to get through. The story is really just incredibly bad. The story in the other FEAR games isn't stellar or anything, but this is uniquely terrible. On the gameplay front it's just okay. There's a weird cover system, bad melee-rush enemies, and other spongey enemies. By around the halfway point the game just loses all of what made it semi-entertaining and it just becomes one of the most dull experiences I've ever played.
It's really short and pretty easy. The story is fun enough despite the "horror" sections being really lacking. The gunplay is also good, but don't expect it to really evolve. The hyper-linear levels, endlessly grey corridors, and really easy to abuse slo mo making this game a bit of a boring breeze at times. Despite that, I still had my fun with it.
Honestly I found this game pretty frustrating. It is plagued with old school game design that doesn't really cut it now. The best way I can describe is like a puzzle game, but it doesn't give you any sense of direction. It heavily relies on you using the codec to call people, even if that's not the clear thing you're supposed to be doing. There are some bs enemy and camera placements. So far, my playthrough is incomplete because my game crashed in the second phase of the final boss, sending my save back to the comm tower because this game doesn't technically have real auto saves. I'm coming to this as a new Kojima fan. My favorites are Death Stranding, Peace Walker, and both Vs. What makes this game kind of funny is that those games tend to suffer from over tutorialization while this one suffers from under tutorialization.
This is the under appreciated gem of the Arkham series. I think it has the best of everything the series has to offer. The gameplay and story are both great. The dlc for this is probably the best story dlc in the Arkham series. This game needs more love.
Honestly, it's still a pretty solid game. While the graphics and gameplay don't compare to other AC titles, it's still fun and stands tall as a good game. My only problems are that stealth isn't quite as fleshed out as it could be (something that is remedied in other AC games), and there was this weird bug where I had to disconnect my computer from my wifi in order to stop stuttering. Other than that, it's worth a playthrough.
