Just like all of Larian's RPGs, it has an amazing first act that makes you think you're playing the best game of all time, and then it quickly starts falling apart the minute the second act starts. Bugged quests, rushed content, railroading you down one path or another while removing lots of the free choice you were spoiled with in prior acts, romances that don't pay off, side quests that never tie up their loose ends, and long encounter gauntlets that are all but rigged against you. 90 hours in and I'm going to set it aside now and wait for the inevitable 'enhanced edition' where they go back and finish up the other 75% of the game.
I love this game, and spent years modding it back in the day. It was at one point my favourite game of all time. But this is a horrible enhanced edition. First off, the game was sold on the promise of a new renderer, complete with screenshots of remastered character models and progress threads. But as is the case 100 times out of 100 in these situations, this feature was dropped the second the console ports came out. It's the same bait and switch story you see every time where are soon as the all the various releases are done coming out, all the post launch support and features just coincidentally dries up with some sob story attached. Then the revisionist history starts being written. What remains is a hacked together, clunky, mess that was supposed to be a hold over until the new renderer fixed everything. The UI is either too tiny, or at 2X taking up half the screen. They couldn't be bothered to include a shortcut to the Dungeon Master Client. It used to run from the launcher in the original release. You have to create your own shortcut and add the -dmc to the command line. Spent an hour with a dumb look on my face trying to remember where the DM client button was. You couldn't even include a pre-made shortcut in the folder for us? The game and / or the toolset often doesn't launch. This is easily fixed (after a few hours of googling) by updating the version of OpenAL that comes with the game. The pages that you get linked to to solve this problem have long since been taken down. You guys couldn't include this? Some of the premium modules included are unfinished abandoned messes. One of them is an empty inn next door to a 1 room dungeon with a few gargoyles to fight. Witch's Wake showed promise, but was abandoned after the first episode. Don't buy this unless it's on deep discount.
