Well, it's difficult to say much without spoiling anything. First of all - the story is the main actor here. It may be considered a bit heavy with its own way of keeping you on your toes. It's held up by appealing visuals, solid voice acting for the varied (similar but yet very different?) cast of characters, and interesting puzzle/traversal mechanics. Must also not forget the soundtrack that binds everything so well together. All-in-all an excellent narrative experience (that's *mostly* linear). If you're in search of that, I highly recommend giving it a spin.
A noir P&C game with an intriguing (and a bit spicy) story, fitting aesthetics, funky music, T-B combat, and even QTEs. Despite it being quite short (and with some minor sequence breaks and translation/text errors) the game really has a unique charm. Recommended for a nice quick experience.
If you've played Guacamelee, this sequel will feel both familiar and fresh. It's full of expected platforming, lucha brawling, humour and references, and an intriguing story, accompanied by an amazing soundtrack and fitting visuals. Of course there is no lack of challenges (some really not leaving any room for error, whilst others being very forgiving for a platformer.) And as per the original there is a true/good ending which can only be achieved by completing a certain set of these (optional) challenges. I loved the first game already, but this one brought even more joy (and pain) out of the experience.
The new items and equipment are fine and all, but the Gladiator class brings a nice level of freshness to the gameplay. Arena missions are also a nice change of pace, where their final bosses may be less entertaining than all the other challenges presented. All-in-all recommended to buy on sale.
If you've played previous titles (you should, they're great - even with Conquistador showing its age) this game will swipe you off your feet. The story is intense, with lovable characters (quality VA work in there for all the non-MC text), and important decisions (multiple endings), accompanied by amazing visuals, great (familiar but improved) turn-based tactical combat, map encounters, and some army & camp management (though I do recommend turning "Pacification Missions" off, as they don't bring anything substantial to the table, imho). There are a lot of fun references, and near-historic "accuracy". The team really did put a lot of effort into the research/preparations and it shows in the quality of the experience. Most of all I was first surprised by the Latin pronunciations in the game. Being well familiar with German and Italian (and to some, English) Latin, this voiceover brought a nice air of freshness with it. The combat itself is fun, and with proper tactics (and a sprinkle of luck) you may turn around any "unfair" encounter. It's saddening the devs decided to pursue 'different' endeavours, but in my book this is their well deserved Magnum Opus.
