tons of fun here... - "justice" management via the meter that raises or lowers depending on how you treat criminals(arresst or kill) - the power of the weapons, especially the "lawgiver" feel nice... though the jumping is a bit... terrible lol, but there are no platforming sections or anything so it's not really an issue. - the AI in regards to the judges... eh(it was the early 2000s). - the story is so over the top in the bet way, again though... this is a story from the early 2000s for a fps that puts fun first. - catchphrase galore... - runs smooth... but... its 2025, why shouldnt it lol. ***major note, if your having direct 3d issues, install/setup the hd patch and launch the game from that. you can set up galaxy to launch the patch which launches the game through a resolution setup window. a must play for fans of fun arcade shooters.
as a dude who pretty much in any game with a fishing element just drops everything and just gets caught up in the fishing, sell, profit loop every single time; this game is a massive dream come true... for horror fans especially(like yours truly). extremly chill when you want it to be, inventory management(I find fun) and the lovecraftian style cosmic horror. there is so much here for most... definatly give it a shot. it's a total recommend at full price for sure. a no question grab if on sale. some extra notes: - great art direction - great soundtrack - simple gameplay - easy to hop in and out of. - tons and tons of ocean to explore, in a similar style to "sunless sea". - tons of mystery in its narrative elements, discoverable again, similar to "sunless sea". PLAY THIS!
ever since this game showed up on GOG, i was curious... the videos werent really all that helpful with providing an understandin of what this game was, and how it played. come to find out(after taking the plundge) its a realtime with pause rts/action/adventure game. I am a huuuuge fan of anygame that has realtime with pause. I just find it waaay more relaxing and easy to get into a game that let's you pause the action and plan accordingly, adjusting your plans as they playout. this game is a little simpler than others in the same category like and old school crpgs or jagged alliance back in action... but it still has a degree of depth with stat upgrades and an ever growing spellbook. The controls are simple and fantastic, pretty much all mouse based like the other mentioned games. I will say that the dragon's pathfinding can be a bit jank(getting stuck on elevated terrain because the dragon tried to fly through it...? thats easily fixed by moving the dragon out of the way of said terrain when it happens. also, this game allows not only for realtime with pause, but a speed slider which allows you to slow the speed of the game down allowing you to plan on the fly easier(or just avoid attacks easier). all in all, a 100% total recommened to anyone looking for a fun point and click dragon action game. for me it's a fun, chill and addictive experience just to be clear... but I can see for others it could be intense.
to keep it short and straight to the point... ANECDOTAL: this is a step up for horror soft in one simple way. the game clock from personal nightmare is gone. PN was awesome, especially since it had the game clock that kind of provided a simulation of scheduled events and etc. aside from that, the game clock ultimately made the game waaay more frustrating than fun. actualy, PN was more intriguing than fun. not bad, just reaaaaly hard to get into because of said feature. NOW ON TO THIS GAME: without an in-game clock hampering the experience, this game capitalizes on the freedom to explore, as well as providing very fun and simple combat which is great for an old school classic such as this. more old school afficianodos know that most first person grid based exploration games tend to be pretty brutal, and because of that, hard to get into. this game is a very rare gem in that case being that its notnecisserily brutal. as well, the environments are absolutly beautiful. the gameplay(player actions) or straightforward which is all very much a positive. gathering objects/plants or etc is simple... just drag from the environment and into your inventory space for the wonderful elvira's spell crafting/cooking :3 controls are all(gui based) mouse accessible which is always great. CONCLUSION: to sum it all up. This is a rare case where an old school dos game is highly accessible and fun. light on punishment, and deep with environment detail and characters. total recommend for newbies and old school pros alike. A MUST PLAY.
The amount of time that I have put into this game, just by playing it "My way" is insane. the "9th dawn" series has always been easy to just hop into and get caught up in dungeon crawling; easily losing track of time. The series usually banks on its simple and very approachable, while being satisfying enough to as stated before, "lose track of tim etc etc..." -This game like the previous, exists in the same map(which in these games is not an issue. feeling more like revisiting a town you love over the years.) HERES WHERE IT REALLY EVOLVES: -you can now break tons of props which provides a great amount crafting resources. -there are your standard combat/weapon/armor skills the series is known for... BUUUUT now adds a plethora of life skills like cooking/alchemy/fishing/smithing etc etc. ==each life skill as well as all others allows you to level in each recipe as well, so the more you cook a specific meal, the better you get at it. ==the crafting is an active system that has you experimenting(outside of recipes) with what ever ingredients and provides a minigame that allows you to maintain your success percentage which is awesome. -this game has FISHING, which is just... it's something that I'm known for doing for hundreds of hours in games. neglecting a dying world or find my kidnapped son or whatever lol. it's a fun activity in games, and this game does a great job with it as well. I LOVE FISHING in this game lol. -the towns and it's npcs just oooze sooo much personality, which is not really new for this series. the npcs have always been fun in these games lol. -the combat, while simple is still 100% satisfying... enough for me to get into old school 1990s-2000s boss fight grinds when... there is simply a better appraoch... -you can tame creatures and care for them... you also can use them as companions. -theres even a fun casual card collecting/battle minigame you can initiate with anyone like ffVIII. CONCLUSION: theres a lot in this game, support it. buy it.
(DEC 2021)BOTTOM LINE. The story is really all you can rate as a positive here and that's pushing it. If it's cheap... meh... still kind of recommend not grabbing it... just watch a playthrough. THE BREAKDOWN: I will keep it simple, - the voice acting is top notch -the story is suuuper edge-lord cringe -the world's concepts and character mind set is... weird.(everyone says they have to burn the world down including the hookers). -some strong character moments. -the gunplay is a bit above average due to the movement and melee combat... kind of -stealth is broken(either due to crap AI for or glitchy mechanics and animations) -the physics is still busted... -the visuals can be nice when something silly isn't happening... but its rare that your just not confused by AI pathing choices or lack-there-of. -cops still spawn behind you LMAOOO -driving still floaty There's a ton more... this game is broken(still, dec 2021). The story is cringe as hell with occasional strong character moments... but those can be totally ruined by graphical glitches(i.e. Jackie's death scene ruined because his gun was clipping through his face the whole moment). The graphics are gorgeous, when not in motion... and the optimized the performance allowing a stable 60fps on ultra finally. The point... The story was not my taste but it might be yours. I can say it's good, but I was not into it... but make no mistake... this game is still broken with no plan to fix it or restore it. On low its still visually nice so you can enjoy the visuals if you lack whatever...
Sooo, This was definitly one of the games that pretty much epitimized my childhood... that being said... though I loved it... there were plenty of levels I hated. being older... I actually enjoyed those levels, being a more precise gamer I guess. Also, the concepts and the designs are great for those levels too. anywho, summing up this muttle of a review... The game is actually fantastic due to the challenge it provides for the mechanics... the base mechanics took about a minute to get use to, so thats a positive as well. Totally recommend this to anyone up for platforming with shooting mechanics that require precision reaction. its a fun time :3
