THE DRAGON'S LEGACY

The world of Nimoa is as beautiful as the morning dew, but only at first glance. Under the surface of hills and fertile valleys lurks an old and eternal evil. Living as a mould, stretching threads through an infected area like deadly toadstools. The center of this "being?" deep in the under world is the giant daemon, Skarborr.

GAMEPLAY

You, the player, take the role of the young, inexperienced dragon. In the role of the savior of Nimoa you move through the skies and faces all the challenges of the evil Skarborr. At the beginning of the game the player has the choice of three dragons: Annoth The Fire Breather, Barroth the magician and Morrogh The Necromancer. All three are different and all three have their own ways of dealing with the great many adversaries you will meet. You also develop the dragon's combat abilities throughout the game to deal with the increasingly tough and resilient enemies, until you meet and conquer Skarborr himself.

That is not all, you will also need to control other characters and complete important tasks on the path to overall victory: a warlord and his steed on a potentially fatal fact finding mission, the thoroughly competent hunter on a mission of delicate accuracy and selective killing and the three huge creatures and their riders in an attempt to destroy magical generators keeping the dragons away from the next big fight.

Through 12 enormous and differing geographical areas the task is not only to hunt and destroy despicable monsters, but to build, maintain and defend human settlements. A dragon's individual character, breathtakingly fluid graphics and addictively exhausting aerial combat bring you many hours of sometimes sweat generating gameplay.

You will also fall under the spell of "The I of the Dragon" with its mystical atmosphere, impressive sunrises and colorful but ominous sunsets, for who knows what the night will bring.

FEATURES

  • A choice of three dragons each with its own abilities, based on fire, ice and acid, developing either into a battle, wizard or sniper dragon. There are no limits to the possibilities
  • 12 unique territories representing various geographical areas: mountains desserts, forests and savanna etc. Each map has over 10 square kilometers to cover
  • More than 60 spells with special effects available to each dragon
  • Real time Terra-Forming allows complete mountain ranges disappear and reappear in another location
  • Static and real-time lighting ensure the correct lighting conditions to every day and night cycle
  • Fascinating sunsets and a night sky full of stars await you
  • The Time Control-Option makes it possible to adjust "The I of The Dragon" to your own speed
  • Slow motion mode with a fascinating effect

Was great, not aged well, but a true GOG

Summary: Play as a dragon; flying around dodging enemies fire balls are shooting at them with your own. Look at Divinity Dragon commander instead. TIotG was AMAZING for it's time, but hasn't aged well. Pros: Interesting spells: fear, summon creatures, zap with lightning, etc (standard fantasy game set of spells) You can zoom a decent way out (a lot of older games lack this) The game is well worth the $2.50 Cons: Cumbersome controls, takes a bit to get used to, and will try to auto-correct you. Graphics are ambitious for the 2004 game. Equivalent to the later populous games. No story in the plot, just you are the chosen one, go to this place and kill things. Enemies are simple spawning from various nests/towers. Float there and exchange fireballs. Rinse and repeat. There are better old games that are very similar to this.

Old Love

I played this game to copmpletion many years ago when it was newly released, and I loved it. I am thrilled to have it on GoG, so that I can play it through again on a modern system. Even to this day, it remains (in my experience at least) an entirely unique game, one where you play as the *dragon*. Not as a human with a dragon pet or mount, not as a swap-system where you're sometimes the dragon and sometimes the human, not as some sort of shapeshifter, but the dragon itself and that's that. You have scales, claws, fangs, a tail, wings and all the other great things you expect of a western dragon. You get a choice of three dragons at the beginning of the game, which amounts to a class choice - fighter, magician and I suppose you might call it a paladin; as the third class is a balance of spellcaster and physical fighter. Being a dragon, you can swoop down to catch the enemy monsters in your claws and eat them to restore health. (The eating noise was always oddly satisfying to me). Navigation is through flight, barring one region where you instead play as a human mounted on a lizardy type creature (as best I recall). As far as story goes, basically you are the Chosen One, the Prophecied One. You will be great and good and save the world from the evil monsters invading it. It has been a while, so my recollection might be a bit off, but i believe that one of the main reasons you are the Chosen One is because you are the last of your kind; the humans managed to save some eggs but only yours proved viable or something like that. Finally, I love puns. And the title of this game is a pun. In short, what's not to love? Give the game a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

Amazing game

I first saw this game just a few years ago and didn't think much of it, but eventually picked it up and tried it. To my surprise, I enjoyed "I of the dragon" a lot, and it has become one of my top favorite games at this point. Don't let the old and dated appearance fool you ;) There is a real gem of a game hiding behind it. It's one of the very few games where you actually play as a dragon, and it's really well done. It feels amazing to cast a powerful spell that obliterates everything below you! You get to choose one of 3 different dragons: Annoth the Firebreather, who is like a warrior-type dragon, focusing mostly on physical attacks (firebreath) and a high amount of health. But he also has access to many pyrokinetic spells, to burn his enemies to a crisp! If you're up for a challenge, you could also focus your leveling differently, to make Annoth into a mage instead. Barroth the Magician, who is mostly a magic user. He has the largest arsenal of spells and can also regenerate his mana very quickly. His default breath attack also freezes enemies and he is in general a wind/ice dragon, having many spells of these elements. Morrogh the Necromancer, who is a hybrid between physical and magical. He doesn't particularly excel in as many things as the other two dragons, but he is very adaptive, having a strong breath attack as well as having various powerful spells. The controls in this game take some getting used to however. Playing with the arrow keys is possible. I recommend playing mostly with the mouse though. But try whichever control scheme suits you better. Buying this game here on GOG is a good idea, since it basically fixes many bugs which were present in some other versions. My conclusion is, "I of the dragon" is well worth it, especially so if you enjoy action RPGs with a different take on it, and if you like dragons. I think it has one of the best perspectives about dragons in media ever and it is also really fun to play as a dragon in this game.

Biased, perhaps

Dragons are badass. Some games feature dragons, but this one stands apart: it's the ultimate power fantasy. The game mechanics are quite good, the graphics are a bit shonky but more than get the job done and the story is... well, it's there, I suppose. The powers available to each dragon really make it worthwhile; chowing down on some random zombie never gets old... hell, even eating your own worshipful villagers has a certain appeal. I don't even have to think twice. It's a definite purchase.

fantasy CAS game

It is a light game for modern standards, somewhat fun to play, but annoying controls for basic gameplay, I am changing alot between mouse aim and arrow movement, plus elevation changes. You are a dragon trying to reclaim some territory, as far as I know has almost free pacing, you can do the mission goals at most you own pacing, strafe enemies and destory lairs, grab a snack now and then, and defend settlemets, but up until midgame they are resilient. I dont know if it can endure the three dragons gameplay back to back, but surely you could play one each year, and be satisfied. Gameplay overall: Fun Story: no big deal Cutscenes: simple Dificulty: fair Controls: mildly anoying Its more fun than the sum of his parts, the only really bad thing is that you are the good guy and attacking cities and farms is only by mistake. would be great if it had NG+, but eating and terrorizing minions can satiate the havock thirst
