DOOM (2016)

Just kill everyone

There is something to be said about a good old fashioned "kill everything is sight" game. In 2014 or 2015 Id Software released trailer for Doom 4. A modern military style shooter that everyone hated. In response to the feedback, they scrapped the modern shooter setting and systems in favor of something more simple. A fasted paced run and gun shooter with an AAA budget. There's really nothing else so add. It's simple addictive shooting fun. Jump in and just kill everyone.

Tails of Iron

Great & traditional

The combat is brutal and timing based as supposed to combo based hence the dark souls compassion. There's parry, dodge role, and charged attacked that you need to time in order to survive. But it doesn't have a stamina system nor do you have to go back to where you died to get your stuff back. Also most enemies stay dead after you kill them. This game uses a very traditional checkpoint system. It's leveling up system is also quite straight forward this it less RPG and more 2D Zelda with unforgiving combat. That being said I think this is a strength. I like the simple linear and tight structure of this game and I'm looking forward to the sequel. I bought this game on impulse and was expecting not to like it since I was starting to get tired of all these 2D Souls likes just not being that good or interesting. It turns all I really needed was something more traditional. Best surprise of this year so far.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

Suffers from poor design

I played bolt gun on steam and I didn't really care fit it. The main problem isn't one thing, but lots of little things that come together that prevent the game from being fun. One such thing is the level design. There's too many gaps, too many cliffs and too many ways to fall into pits. You want to move fast and shoot everything insight, but you'll end up slipping off and falling into the pits as you do this. Your default movement speed is very slow, you can hold the shift key to run, but there's no always run function. This means you'll be constantly holding the shift to move at a decent speed. Despite the projectile based combat; the way the levels work, and the way the enemies fight, you will be forced to use cover as you play this game. The game looks like an old school retro shooter, but it actually plays a lot like a modern one.

Noelle Does Her Best!

Yes I did check this out

Ashamed to admit it, but I needed to know if it was as bad as I thought. It's worse. It's a porn game and yes it features underage characters. If this stuff turns you on then just stop. Like with all porn games there is nothing of value here. The gameplay consists of moving from one h-scene to another (h-scene= henti scene IE sex scene in games like this.) There is no challenge or skill. In fact, if porn is your thing then it's fair to say the game part of the game only gets in the way; and the product would be more fit for purpose "better" (for people who like this stuff) if there was less game and just more porn. I don't think Loli games cross the Rubicon, but they get dangerously close. Don't tempt fate and stay the hell away. As for whoever it is that approved this game, I'm not gonna judge you but please reconsider what you're selling here. Thank you.

Prodeus

So close and yet so far

This first person shooter is so close to being perfect that is hurts me to point on the one and I do mean ONE glaring flaw with the game. No penalty for failure. The nexus points (this game's version of a checkpoint) are totally broken. Here's how they work. Once you come into contact with a nexus point you are effectively invincible and can not LOSE! Death mechanics are impotent in any video game, and to this day the developers have refused to discuss or address the use of nexus points or why they're in the game. You can even use them to cheeses the system for deathless runs. Beat a level on the highest difficulty using nexus point, then beat it again on easy. It will say that you beat the level on the highest difficulty without dying. So much of this games look and feels right. Why ruin it by taking away the only thing that makes a game worth playing, challenge.

Saints Row®: The Third™ Remastered

Stick to the oriognal

GOG Staff refunded my purchase despite the discount. This games has major problems regarding performance and offline functionality. This really is a case where you're paying for a very slight graphical mod for very high cost. Not only is the framerate completely unacceptable, but there is content missing from the original version. The graphics are only slightly better and you could probably get better results with a few mods added to the original anyway. Don't waist your money get the original from here https://www.gog.com/game/saints_row_the_third_the_full_package

Star Trek™: Voyager - Elite Force

From the team behind Jedi Outcast

It's a first person shooter based on the hit TV series by the same name, but most notably it's by Raven Software. So what does this mean? It means it's going to be good. Star Trek Voyager Elite Force is feels just like an episode from the show. The story is that Voyager is pulled into a strange pocket of space by some kind of entity and they have to find a way to escape before scavengers, pirate, and other hostiles come to strip the ship and leave them stranded. It stars all the major characters from the show that get to accompany you alongside your mission. This means that although you don't get to play as Tuvok or Seven of Nine you do get to experiences what it's to spend time with them. As this is a video game there will be a number of contrived reasons for you to be going into situations guns 'a' blazing where you face The Borg, spaces 8472, and the Hirogen. This is all to be expected though. Bare in mind that the campaign is very short and will take most people about 6 or so hours to beat the first time. However, there are a few other features aside from the campaign there are worth noting. For starters, there's the mutiplayer which supports not only human opponents but also bots. I have no idea how well it works today so being able to play against bots is a nice touch. It runs on the Quick 3 engine so it feels exactly like a Star Trek mod for Quick 3. Which is not a bad thing at all, I just wish it had some music or something. Finally there's also virtual Voyager. Yes the GOG version of the game comes packaged with not only the latest patch but also the expansion along with it. This includes virtual Voyager and a few side quest. Virtual Voyager is exactly what it sounds like. Explore the entire starship of voyager from the the crew's quarters to the bridg and engineering. If you're a fan of first person shooters or Raven's work, you should check it out; if you're a fan of the show it's a must have.

Commander Keen Complete Pack

PC’s answer to Mario and Sonic

Truth is the Keen games aren't quite as good as it's console brethren, they are still a good time though. They conform to the I.D. and shareware design philosophy. That is the first episode is free and usually the best and each episode contains 1 secret level. What makes Keen special is that you have a pogo stick. This increases your jumping capacity while sacrificing control. It’s a rather neat gimmick for a plateformer. Another feature is that you can save your game anytime on the world map for the first three episodes while episodes, 4 & 5 have quick save. Something that the console counterparts don’t have. While there are certainly many other plateformers out there, I am happy to report that this is still fun especially those that grew with it. The Dosbox is pre configured nicely and there’s no texture filtering this time. My only complaint is that aspect ratio is not defaulted to 4:3
