This game.. just wow.. first of all, as a sound techie/engineer myself, i jsut have to point out how absolutely perfect, just pure perfection the whole sound design & music are.. just WOW! The way Tech Priests talk in that half organic, half binary way, the way it's done in this gameis prue genius, and sound phenomenal. The music with its classic pipe organs and modern edm stylings is top level in every way.. one of the rare games where i actually keep the music turned on, have bought the soundtrack, and actually do listen to the soundtrack occasionally when not playing the game... that all being said, THE GAME ITSELF is good.. very well done turn based combat strategy, although in the midpoint of the game you usually tend to have powerfull enough tech priests so you can handle every mission with ease.. it kind of stops being challenging and inevitably moves towards "power fantasy" kinda gaming.. i have nothing against it tbh, good game, solid mechanics. Story is... how to put it.. mid tier w40k story revolving around Mechanicus & Necron, nothing special, nothing fancy, just mid tier basic, but it works, there is nothing wrong with it. all and all, this is a very very solid game, guaranteed to give entertainment for hours for every strategy gamer and/or w40k fan ! also, the soundtrack is sooooo worth the price !
i've played this "back in the day" when this first came out, i think i still have to original cd's somewhere, i've spent countless hundreds of hours in to this game, and honestly, as civ type games go, this is one of the best... i love especially in this one how they have done unit design & building, and terraforming. you can lower and raise terrain, drill for new rivers etc.. with proper tech the whole planet is yours to shape to your liking. Sid meiers "beyond earth" is a good title also, basically a "civilization in space !", but this one was the original, and honestly, this one was better ! with modern mods this scales 99% perfectly to 4k screens, making you able to basically see whole planet at once ! Good stuff, highly recommend this title !
I've played the sequel to this for some time now, and decided to get this one on sale, and i have to say i have not regretted it. Music is again from Steam Powered Giraffe, excellent steampunk/weird west style band, gameplay is solid, story is fun... all and all, i would give this thing a solid 5 stars. It's fun, and it jsut works !
