NEW: ‘Deus Ex Machanicus’ by Andy Chambers - A Warhammer 40,000 short story – “On the dead world of Naogeddon, mysterious tombs, missing explorators and deadly defenders cause trouble for the Adeptus Mechanicus. But the biggest danger might come from within…”
May the Omnissiah protect!
Take control of one of the most technologically advanced armies in the Imperium - The Adeptus Mechanicus. As Magos Dominus Faustinius, you’ll lead the expedition on the newly rediscovered Necron planet of Silva Tenebris. Customize your team, manage resources, discover long-forgotten tech, and control your Tech-Priests’ every move.
Your every decision will shape the missions ahead and ultimately decide the fate of the troops under your command in over 50 hand-crafted missions. Choose your path carefully - the Imperium depends on it.
Augment
Flesh is weak! Upgrade your Tech-Priests with weapons, support items, Servo-Skulls and other mechanical augments as you assemble your cohort. Customize your team’s disciplines, choosing from multiple character classes to create a squad for every playstyle.
Unique Tactical Combat
Engage in immersively strategic combat that will test your mettle under the extreme pressure of the xenos ambush. Access your most powerful weapons and abilities by using Cognition Points and advance on your enemy without pause. Fear not, the Omnissiah favours the brave.
The Library of Immersion
A compelling story written by Black Library author, Ben Counter, specifically crafted to fit the unique personality of the Adeptus Mechanicus faction, with each character having their own personalities and agendas. Feel the tension and admire the devotion with unique visual effects and breathtaking audio.
Difficult Decisions
Make tough decisions that will forge the future from your Ark Mechanicus, The Caestus Metalican, and send you towards alternate endings for a truly unique playthrough. Be warned, however, the more you explore each tomb, the greater the rewards but also greater the threat.
Canticles of the Omnissiah
Collect in-game achievements and be rewarded with strong abilities that can be used once per mission to aid you in the heat of battle.
Mechanicus presents an excellent tactics game in the vein of the newer X-Com games.
It presents a tight, though provoking tactical experience without any RNG bullshit (aside from slightly variable damage values). Ben Counter writes an awesome story with excellent central characters (the tech priests all look AMAZING) with dialogue being the highlight.
Technically, it is super solid (some people report an issue with beam weapons, but I personally never experienced this)
The soundtrack is really unique, and welcome.
It's really nice to see a developer create a game that isn't total shovelware with the Warhammer 40k license. It's all too easy to go "look, Space Marines, no more effort required, right?"
I'm looking forward to sequels / future games.
My honest review starts with a little background about me: I don't really like RTSs, I've never played turned based games before and table top games are too boring for me. I have never in my life gotten into anything more complicated than Rise of Nations in terms of "strategy". I wasn't even into 40k when I first bought this game. I bought this based purely on the trailer (which is one of the best I've ever seen for a videogame)
After playing this I can say that I'm very pleased with my purchase. I love this game. I enjoyed every mision. Every little detail. Graphics are nice. Color paletet is surprisingly rich and the sceneries just pop. Sound design is superb. The soundtrack is very peculiar but also very good. Story is awesome and inspired. Character with an actual personality that you can understand and take into account during your decision making (because you'll have to take some decisions). I liked this game so much that it got me hook into the W40k universe. I bought a book on the Adeptus Mechanicus origins. I read it in a weekend and bought some more books. I bought a couple more games... And the a couple more.
Simply put. This is just a great game. I really encourage you to try it out if you have any affinity for the W40K universe. I can only wish you luck and have high hopes that you'll love it at least half as much as I did. Cause it really is a great game this one.
Praise the Omnissiah!
Good 40K games are a bit like bigfoot: people talk about them, some claim to have seen them, but they are very hard to find . For the most part, the brand does all the heavy lifting, leaving game-play and content lagging. Well, not this 40K game, my friends. This here is the genuine article.
While the scope is fairly narrow (you'll be doing one thing, on three different screens), the execution is phenomenal. This game oozes atmosphere, the music is great, the writing is rock-solid, witch NPCs that have genuine personalities (quirks, foibles, warts and all); and the game-play is at once immediately approachable and fairly deep (not deep-deep, mind: about hip-deep).
If you enjoy turn based squad tactics, customization, and 40K lore, do yourself a favor and grab this while it's around. 'Cause if history is anything to go by, there's no telling when another good 40K game will shamble out into sight.
I have always loved the 40k universe and i was waiting for a good game in the series to appear again, and here it is. Great fun, great price, ORGASMIC AUDIO! Magos Faustinius' voice.... Just amazing. And the soundtrack is pure brilliance.
