Long live Ferelden! Buy this game and enter a fantastic world of role playing and adventure that will give you many, many hours of enjoyment. BioWare nailed this one! The plotline is solid and the story comes to life and draws you in through excellent dialogue, great voice acting and lore-friendly sets. A story that you are eager to explore and where your wanderlust and curiosity are amply rewarded with encounters of fantastical characters that are easy to develop strong feelings about. The sheer amount of content that is being offered here and the DRM free aspects make this purchase a no-brainer. I already own it on Origin and my recent purchase of this on GOG should be taken as a further endorsement of this game.
To date I haven’t written very many reviews but I felt compelled to write a review about Sorcerer King. I think the principal reason that I like this game and maybe one of the reasons that I was actually able to finally understand the game mechanics, is that the folk at Stardock decided to let you have fun your way and have allowed the casual gamer the ability to scale the game back to easy. I don’t play a lot of games where “magic” plays a significant role in the gameplay and was having a hard time trying to figure out how to successfully proceed in this game and if it hadn’t been for the fact that you could scale this game back to quite easy I would have gotten too frustrated to continue. There are quite a few other reasons for liking this title and I’ll try to cover the main reasons that appealed to me. The graphics are clean and crisp and help draw you into the gameplay. The writing is well done and in some instances, quite humorous. The skill system is varied between your “hero types” and for someone new to this type of genre, seemingly quite extensive. The spell book, the crafting system and the enchanting system seem very robust as well; even to the degree of being a bit overwhelming to someone new to these types of games. The game seems stable and I have had no technical issues playing the game. About the only thing on my wish list for this game would be a trading post but other than that I really can’t think of anything I’d like to see added to this game other than more maps and gear. Based on the above points I would strongly recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun, world building game that has magic as a main theme. If Stardock Entertainment makes all of their games this scalable as far as difficulty is concerned, I will be interested in purchasing more of their titles. I like having fun without having to sit on the edge of my seat. Thanks Stardock.
Can’t really recommend the game! The developer’s decided to make the game frustrating rather than fun. The combat could have been scalable but the developers decided you had to have fun their way and not your way; as they only provided a single level of difficulty; which made the game basically unplayable for me. Avoid this one.
