This game is one that deserves going through again. I'll get the bad out of the way first. After completion I realized the game felt narrow, and looking at all the endings on youtube I realized something was up. Turns out that Bethesda rushed the team to finish so a lot was quickly wrapped up so that story choices in the end didnt lead to as many unique endings. I believe this also impacted the game length as well as the lack of weapon options. I also wasn't a fan of fighting respawning enemies after I cleared an area in general for story reasons and for combat reasons. I just eventually ran past and accepted damage because in my mind I killed these guys already. However This was the first time in a long time I had enjoyed a game. It was scary as hell each time a new enemy was introduced. The pacing of adding them and unlocking new areas didn't leave me confused. With what was given, the game was focused and well executed. For the lack of weaponry, the skill tree was well made and gave unique playstyles I wish I try in different playthroughs. I hope that perhaps one day another game like this is made. Sadly the story wouldn't allow for sequel that could have the same feel, but I would like to see a sequel just for story. I was quite immersed in the secrets of the game's world. Trying to find out what is really going on, who is the one to trust? VO in this was top notch. Music played well into the mood. Solving encounters was great. The DLC sucks, but the main game rocks. I'd say its well worth the full price.
I'm addicted to TDs. These guys made the first kingdom rush as a flash game years ago, and its going strong. This is as good as the previous ones, but easier than frontiers. I have yet to try vengeance though. This iteration has some frustrating parts like enemies suddenly carving out new paths half way through and the best thing to do at that point is to just reset and build in anticipation of it. This time the towers generally all have more projectiles or faster rat of fire. The heroes are more fun because they all now have an active ability you can use with them too. Many maps also have interactable parts that will help you and should be used to your advantage. My favorite was the fire breathing hypogrifs you can activate on one map. One thing I do wish they would do is change up their formula for one game to not be so centered around barracks towers. Slows, stuns, and other abilities could be more impactful. The strategy in this one is pretty much to make a bottleneck, and upgrade the magic and arrow towers and get their insta death abilites upgraded. Since there are many high HP, high defense enemies, this is the best path. However many tactics work, and I have used every tower. One issue I still have is that in game you can get achievements but GoG doesn't have them, what gives?
This is what I hate about GoG, everyone just tells you how nostalgic games are, worthless. I chose this because of the legacy. I must admit it was shocking that this game is as old as 1998 and has such good gameplay. However it is dated, and comes with some issues. Mainly the confusing maps aren't exactly helpful, however you can type directly on them, which is a cool feature. There is a lot of exploring to do, but I found it often too stressful due to how shody it is when you encounter an enemy if they till notice you or not. You get not real visual cue that they are alerted to you being there. You have a meter to tell how noticable you are, but it is generally unhelpful, and is always up, it doesn't tell you that anyone actually hears you, just that if they could, they would or wouldn't, same with seeing you. Then they always know where you are. Forget juking them and hiding in a dark corner. The frustrating issue I most dislike is that the difficulty is extreme. Yes, I understand that you aren't meant to fight, but the combat is just awful, and the amount of hits to take a guy down is rather absurd for the first level with the easiest difficulty. That being said, carefully getting in position, hiding and blackjacking enemies is wonderfully pleasant when done right, and taking the time to explore a bit will reward you with extra goodies, but again, really only pays off once you are more familiar with the level, where enemies are, and how to avoid them. The story is solid, and the voice actor for the main character has no right being that good for 1998 when game VO mostly sucked up until 10 years later. And yes guard voices all suck. In the end, it was slow moving, but with the ability to save anytime it was fine. The first thing to do is rebind the keys as the default keys make no sense. A and D will make you turn, not strafe, and S will make you walk forward, yes, S, and jump has no keybind to start. So carefully change everything. In the end, decent.
