One of those games, that demonstrate stuff like double standards, racism, whole stereotype-created world, but does so openly. For this, it deserves a bold one star as the comment section alone gives enough data for psychiatric study on both side of barricades. Probably valued by McCarthysts, ex-Nazis, other victims of post-WW2 West propaganda or what not, and they shouldn't be denied right to cultivate their personal hate. In the end, freedom counts and the game controversial theme is its main selling point, right eh? :)
I have discovered around 10 bugs in my playthrough of Lightspeed Edition. I managed to finish the game but its state was affected by reloading->state-rewind bug, which caused loosing any chance to help the allies. I have listed all the bugs here in forums "halcyon 6 lightspeed edition forum", some are game-breaking. As of game itself, it is by no way a strategy, it is like Star Control, but Hypermelee is replaced with combination strikes. The gaming field tries to imitate space strategies, like Ascendancy, but its perfectly linear game with little dynamics. Most of dynamics are given through random events, but their effects are much smaller than for example FTL. Diplomacy does NOT exist in this game, you are only given few choices at few moments. As of today I strongly recommend ignoring it, unless gamebreaking reload bug is fixed. The graphics and music are ok, but music gets layered inside the base, which I think is another bug, that I can imagine causes people to set it on mute. Game development seems to have stopped around 2018, I doubt there will be any fixes. Another half-finished abadonware on properietary cemetery, I think.
Great game! Works well on Linux (Gentoo, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, I am going to run this on NixOS in near future)! Great development pace! Very moddable! Constantly expanded with new HUGE areas and with cars coming - I have restarted three times already because of new releases! My ONLY criticism is that if electricity is set to shut off, then you can't pump gasoline from gas stations, but it can be compensated with mods that allow that or add solar panels instead. CHAT ME IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION. The low rated reviews are ABSOLUTELY unjustified! I have over 1000 hours into this game and every new playthrough attempt is UNIQUE! If you like Don't Starve and like zombies, then you will love Zomboid!
This game was funded by "Carmageddon: Reincarnation Kickstarter" during which they PROMISED to deliver Linux and OSX package - and they reached that mark. FIVE years later, they actually made a "Penguin release" look up for "Carmaggedon: Max Damage - WE DO PENGUINS", effectively trolling their own supporters. This is my personal opinion, but I will never ever touch something like this or call it "Good" nor "Old".
Doom 3 BFG is really a set back compared to original. Why I am rating this 5 stars then? Search for "Doom 3 BFG HI-DEF" mod. Basically, it restores the lighting, textures and shadows back to amazing level. It even runs on Linux and Mac. The guy who created it, is just god like.
