I've slowly reached the conclusion that this is my favorite MOO successor. I love the art, the unique asymmetric factions and tactical combat. The overall mechanics aren't any more quirky than the average 4X game, once you get used to them. My only criticism is that the game isn't 100% finished. It could use a polish. This is only occasionally evident, but I wish the game was still being improved. It would probably be the greatest space 4x of all time. Even with it's quirks, it's still easily a five star experience.
MOO 1 lacks many of the features of the later games, but overall it's still the version I enjoy most. It's just a faster and punchier take on the 4x genre, and I love it.
