It is an obscure game form the 90's. hard as hell too. I have tried to play this game multiple times but due to how deep it is, I have never been able to get very far. And believe me when I say that this game is like nothing else out there. It's gameplay is different. it's music is different. It's graphics are different. it is art.
THese games were the creation of a Robotics scientist named Steve Grand. Steve Grand is one of those very rare people that sees this world just a little differently. To this day there is no game even remotely like them. Do you remember those little digital pets you used to carry on a keychain? Well this game was like those. Only thousands of times more complex. These creatures have digital DNA that controls thier behavior, inctincts, the color of thier fur and other various traits. You teach them to talk using a rudimentary language system. They learn basic phrases, and even understand what the words mean. You can discipline them when they misbehave. They breed, They eat, they sleep, they get old, and die. They can be born with genetic defects. some of them minor, and some of them so detrimental that they are stillborn. They can be poisoned, they can get too hot or too cold. they can get sick. They have simulated blood, hormones, and pheramones. They have simulated neurons. The only thing they cannot do is imagine things outside thier own programming. and sometimes they just don't learn no matter how much you try to teach them. It's a shame there will never be a game like this again for a very long time.
I played this game back in the day. for a text adventure game it was extremely hard to figure out, and I never beat it. but only because my computer died before i could finish it. there are thousands of jokes in this game. this is not a serious title at all, and is extremely cheesy. You will at least enjoy all the puns if nothing else.
I die in every fight I get into. this game is garbage, and I wish I could get a refund. plus all you can do is play as this gruff old guy with the personality of sandpaper. what a horrible game.
You are Werner Von Wallenrod. Farm boy, Cow herder, and potato peeler. You are sent by your foster father on a quest to become a great hero. Cause it turns out you, with the most unfortunate of names are in fact the chosen one! Charged with the task of defeating the bad guy, whose name has even more syllables than yours! and saving the kingdom from a great evil. or something like that. also there are dragons. and everything is better with dragons in it. This is one of the more kooky puzzle/adventure games out there. Myst with a battle system if you can call it that. So grab your walking stick, rope, armor, shield and twizzler sword, and set off for 16 bit color adventure!
I got this game on steam about a year ago. And the UI was confusing, the graphics even for their time were terrible, and the gameplay was absolutely horrid. I died repeatedly in my first fight, and everything was so unbalanced, that there is no possibility that any other part of this game could be fun. The people who like this game only like it cause they use a ton of mods to balance this game out, but out of the box, by itself this game is terrible. Stay away from it, and don't buy it. there are plenty of other games out there that did it better.
this collection of games are going to collect dust on my shelf.
