Fallout: London

There are issues...

Most of the game is amazing, but there are problems. The writing weakest point. I believe any of the writing or dialogue in the first hour of the game. The scientists' notes appear to have been written for a children's cartoon character, and the presumed antagonist really hams it up. I realize Fallout is all about humor, but it appears to be like I was meant to take these people seriously. On a technical level, the game is in an unacceptable state. If it weren't for everything else, I would have given this game a one star. It is really delicate. Things like icon misalignment and lack of support for ultra-wide screen is more of a Bethesda problem, but there is no reason not to include quality of life improvments out-of-the-box. Like everyone else, I crashed at the train. I ended up using Buffout 4 and Long Loading Times Fix from Nexus. That seemed to work, along with skipping the cutscene. It took about three tries after installing both mods and getting ultrawide to display in an acceptable way. I spent a total of about 5 hours of trail-and-error just to get the game two look right and get past the intro hub. There is also some weird design decisions/glitches/quirks. The "Pip-boy" isn't a Pip-boy, but you do get to use its light at first. The modders seemed not to know how to turn this off, but required you to pick up a lantern after failing to enter an elevator with voice lines on the other side of the doors. Picking up the lantern makes a locked door open, and exchanges your Pip-boy lantern for a much worse, yet more "atmospheric" lantern. I am not sure why this even exists. There are several parts that are blocked off in the intro hub, so if you don't have the correct stats, I guess that's too bad. This should have been tested more.

Sticky Business

Fun Sticker Creator

You are a sticker shop owner who designs and prints stickers for customers. You utilize a clipart collection that you can expand to produce more designs and bring in more customers. There isn't much complexity to the business side of things. You have to manage how much you spend on printing and clipart rights, and you have to keep an eye on the day meter to make sure you have enough time in the day to do what you need. Sometimes, design is not going to happen if you have to fulfill a large volume of orders. The game is really forgiving if you forget to send out your stickers at the end of the day. Some of your customers seem pretty sad and are going through some rough times. You also have a friend who insists on buying tons of stickers from you. Their stories develop over time. Sometimes, you happen upon a design that really takes off. For me, it involved the Frog UFO. You just have to listen to your customers and experiment. The game is a fun little management simulator. Nothing stressful. The music is super relaxing. It's a good "unwinding" game.

Tormented Souls

Great Silent Hill Type

The game is a great indie title. I wanted a creepy game with some depth and uniqueness. There is plenty of horror, exploration and puzzle solving. The plot is set in the 1990s, and at times the game feels like it was made in that era. The music-driven mood, tank controls, and voice acting make it feel like a early Playstation concept title. Graphically, the game looks fine, but inconsistent. Certain textures look like they have more detail than others. A lot of movement in the cutscenes seems deliberatly crafted, which makes reuse more obvious. The line deliveries seem a bit off, and voice direction does not seem to always match what is happening. Still, everyone tries their best and I appreciate being able to hear different voice actors that are not in circulation for every AAA title on the market. I know I said that the music sounds like it is from the 90s, but I meant it in a good way. The tracks are distinct and have an emotion tied to them. The sounds are sometimes a bit stock, but do not bother me. It is sometimes difficult to see what I am doing because of the camera angles, but that is a common hazard with such titles. Other hazards include developer logic, which is sometimes a bit out there, but nothing close what you would come across in an old Sierra title. I have no idea why people complain about this game. It is a bit difficult, but you are a young woman with a nail gun. You are injured, traumatized, and scared. There is "resource conservation" painted all over a game like this. You need to look after yourself and your inventory or you will not survive a surprise encounter in a dark corner. This is one of my new favorites. It isn't that long, but definitely memorable. The only thing is the marketing. Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark I can agree with, but not so much Resident Evil. Definitely some Haunting Ground in here like someone else stated, though that game is considerably superior. However, that is a very difficult game to match.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin + Reborn

It's Alright, but Not Really F.E.A.R.

The game was pretty fun, but a lot of elements from the first game have been taken away. No more leaning, you are actually expected to use the iron sights, a lot of the enemies and guns have glowing lights like everyone is going to a military themed rave, the spooky parts are now extremely loud and in your face. Also, Alma is kind of into you, and shows it in the creepiest way possible. It's not existential horror, but more avoiding cooties. Dead lady cooties. The music isn't quite as weird and out there as the original, but moreso than the sequel. The pace seems much more rushed, and for whatever reason you are given a mech suit and minigun. The meatpuppets are creepy and cool, but barely used despite being a major point in the media up to release. There are a couple of cool shooting sections. The two best ones come one after the other. One is on a cargo train, the other from a sniper's vantage point. I distinctly remember enjoying them both. The music during these two sections is at its best, as well. There were some silly decisions made in the development of this game, but it isn't at all awful. The story most certianly needed an editor, and the glow sticks needed to go, but the core is there. It is just under the thin layer of modern military shooter paint.

SWAT 4: Gold Edition

You're in my way, sir.

Four stooges who qualified for SWAT are led by an exasperated squad leader who is tasked with taking on dozens of criminals at once with a group of 4. Command had to make some budget cuts, so the group tasked with breaching, taking suspects into custody, rescuing hostages, diffusing explosives and securing objectives by themselves. Agents are given absolutely no downtime, even when finding a pile of dead children and a rape dungeon (yes this actually happens). The squad mates were apparently very bad softball, since they often throw tactical grenades at their own feet. Despite encountering suspects armed with illegally modified automatic weaponry, the squad leader is often penalized for taking down active shooters. It is also imperative that their weapons are confiscated, which means that the squad are probably armed more heavily than the doom marine, but are penalized if they go in with anything more than a paintball gun loaded with pepper balls. I can only conclude that the squad leader has the patience of a saint.

Surgeon Simulator

Know what you are getting into.

After playing this game, I have this strange feeling that my wrist is bent at an odd angle and I can't do anything about it. Also, I like to casually brush everything off my desk onto the floor and then proceed to type on my keyboard with my palm. My workmates are terribly worried about me, but I don't understand the problem. Also, I am apparently qualified to be a surgeon since I know how to use a pair of pruning shears. It's OK if I screw up, since Listerine in a syringe fixes everything. Best game ever/10.

Jack Keane 2: The Fire Within

Ambrosia.

My vision was bad, I had aches and pains, and my skin wasn't that great. Because of this game, I am not only free of all of those problems, but I have also grown beyond human limitations. Now I can float above the clouds and look beyond the beautiful horizon. All that was ugly is now so pretty, I can cry. The game itself- it is indescribable. I simply have no words. I am lost when I think of it....
