Kingdoms and Castles

Fairly mediocre

It's one of the better survival/management/city builders that I've played in a while but considering Banished was the last one I played, I guess anything will look better. It needs a ton of work that could take years more to come through and I just feel like it's not worth waiting around.

What Remains of Edith Finch

A good bunch of stories

It really does a good job of telling its story. Whether you consider it a game is your problem.

Bounty Train

Repetitive mechanics that get you stuck.

Train management game set in the Civil War era. A novel idea that is brought down by the extreme amount of repetition and constant feeling like being stuck in one place forever with no way out. Not a fan of this eventually turned out I'm afraid. Honestly not worth picking up, there are better games in this genre.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

An excellent story but it lacks cards.

Gwent: Thronebreaker is alright. The story is excellently crafted and the Visuals very well done. Along with the music, SFX and so on. As far as that's concerned, CDProjectRed brought their A game. But, about the half way to 2/3rds point, the game just utterly peters out in terms of mechanics. An indication that Gwent itself can't hold up to the 30 hour campaign that was demanded. Most of the battles past the half way point can be easily won without any change to strategy and there are some hilariously broken cards, especially when in boss battles. I hope they keep doing more Witcher Tales like Thronebreaker but it's clear they need to find a different genre to play in. Thronebreaker feels like they did all they could and it still wasn't enough. It's ok, but I can't give it as strong a recommendation as I could the Witcher 3.

Dust: An Elysian Tail

A Beautiful Gem That Revitalized Me.

Read the full and unabridged review on A Paladin Without A Crusade: http://kingisaaclinksr.com/2015/08/29/a-paladins-review-dust-an-elysian-tail-a-beautiful-gem-that-revitalized-my-love-of-gaming/ Dust is a 2D metroidvania and RPG light game that focuses on combat, questing and character interactions along with some exploration and backtracking. Dust’s only weapon throughout the entire game is a one handed sword and a special ability called Dust storm. It’s a fairly long game ranging about 15 hours in length. Set in the fantasy world of Falana, Dust is awakened by the presence of Ahrah a talking sword that sets him on his quest to figure out who or what he is. All the while, Dust must discover new powers and abilities to traverse the 2D landscape. Dust: An Elysian Tail is a beautiful gem of a game even if it isn’t a perfect one. It’s a labor of love done almost entirely by a single developer that, frankly, should be the standard of quality all one-man developer teams should shoot for. It’s imperfections are minor ones between some of the characters being potentially annoying for some (Fidget most notably), the combat system is sometimes a little bit too easy even on hard settings and the crafting system often feeling pointless. Still, I feel like these are minor quibbles. Dust will forever hold a special place for me for revitalizing my love of gaming. Its highly responsive combat system, beautifully crafted visuals, enjoyable storyline and memorable characters sealed its award as my game of the year in 2013. Kudos that I continue to support to this day.
