Enderal: Forgotten Stories

Better then Skyrim at almost everything

Never could get into Skyrim after several attempts. Bad story, boring companions and shallow mechanics. Most of all not what I wanted out of the game. But Enderal fixes all of this. The games are similar in a lot of ways. Both are more Action/RPGs then just RPGs. But Skyrim is more of a sandbox with more content. But the quests are boring or fetch-quests and most of the other things are just cosmetics. No progression or acknowlegtments of your efforts. Mods add a whole lot to it, especially the ones with more quests and interesting NPCs. But the core game is still the same. Enderal is good straight out of the box. Granted it's a mod so it is kind of unfair to compare but it's not a huge company with tons of resources. And it's free (if you already own Skyrim.) Most quests are intelligent, interesting and varied. And this some people will disagree on, but the locations are much better and more fun to explore. It has a rougher feeling to it like many older games had. All things aren't polished in the same way. I don't mean it's not stable or refined but it hasn't gone through ten executives before it got the green light. More mature in most ways and it isn't afraid to kill off people or end quests with a darker result. Don't go into the game (or mod) expecting more of Skyrim. It's not as much of a sandbox, it's more character-driven and narrative. More focus on writing and the story. It made me not regret spending money on Skyrim, which was a huge letdown. One of the best mods ever made.
