Caesar 3

All hail Caesar!

A truly wonderful manager sim where you play as a newly appointed provincial governor that will be given several different tasks by the emperor himself as you progress in the ranks. You will have to make sure that the people who come to your city have access to food, work, security and entertainment among things. Another important aspect is to establish a trade route with any of the neighbouring cities in the province. It is also important that you keep the gods happy as they can quite easily get jealous if only one of the Roman gods are worshipped in the city, they will punish you with things like making a certain amount of food in your storage just disappear, fires break out and more. This is a true gem when it comes to manager simulators and is a must play, even if you haven't played any of the earlier Caesar games.

System Shock® 2 (1999)

True horror in space

It is no joke that a lot of people call this the quite possibly scariest game they've ever played on the PC. Set 42 years after the events of System Shock 1, mankind has begun to make even greater steps into space with the cutting edge Von Braun, created by TriOptimum, that is able to travel faster then light while being escorted by the Rickenbacker. However, several weeks later the ship picks up a distress signal from the planet labled as Tau Ceti 5 where the crew brings onboard something that slowly takes over the minds of the crew and eventually mutating most of them into horrific creatures that are still aware of what is going on, but can't do anything about it. You play as a soldier who had prior to the Von Braun going on its tour been assigned to it and wake up in a cryogenic tube with no memory of what has happened. It is up to you to face the mutated crew and hacked security system while also finding out about how all this happened. This game was number 1 on the game request list here on GOG for a reason and now you get the chance to experience the horrors onboard the Von Braun and Rickenbacker for a low price as well as no hassle with getting it to run on Windows Vista, 7 and such.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul

A unique game for its time

Back when this game was released for Windows and the Dreamcast, it was quite the unique experience. I never had the chance to play the full version though, only the PC demo. But I absolutely loved the atmosphere of it and how vibrant the city of Omikron was. The game's soundtrack is really good too, especially the tracks made by David Bowie that add even more to the game's unique atmosphere. And it mixes in third person exploration with first person shooting, hand to hand combat and puzzle solving with grace too.

Fallout Classic

A hard but really good old RPG classic

Fallout is quite simply one of the best RPGs to ever arrive on Windows. The game explores the idea of what it would be like in a post nuclear war world with mutants, bandit gangs and such roaming the wastelands. You play as a Vault-dweller, who has lived most of his or hers life inside a vault designed to protect the survivors from radiation and what not. However, now you're selected by the Overseer to go for the very first time outside of the vault and into the wasteland to find a replacement for the vault's water purification controller chip, its the only way they can get fresh and clean water and the old one has given up the ghost. You have a select number of days to find a replacement before the vault runs out of water and its all over. But on the surface you will face some really horrific foes like Super Mutants, big, lumbering and very stupid monsters, giant mutated scorpions and other untold horrors. This game is HARD from the start and even the smallest of mistakes can doom you, so you have to choose carefully with how you approach a situation, most of which can be solved peacefully.
