BloodNet

Vampires and cyberpunk, oh my!

Bloodnet is one of those rather unique PC games to be released back in the 90's with its mixture of supernatural and cyberpunk elements. You play as the hacker Ransom Stark who at the start of the game is approached by a mysterious and beautiful women who offers him a huge amount of cash in exchange for him erasing some rather sensitive data on the women and her father. He does the job and comes to her apartment but he quickly discovers that he more or less stepped into a trap as the women and her father turn out to be vampires and Ransom ends up being bitten by the woman's father. However when Ransom wakes up, he discovers that he isn't the vampire's mindless slave and he escapes, but now he must try and find a way to cure himself of the vampire curse AND also stop the vampires from taking over the city and possibly the world. The game imposes a time limit on you in the form of a cybernetic implant that Ransom has that is doing its best to slow down the vampiric transformation, but its draining a lot of power in the process. But Ransom must still feed himself some blood or else he will die, that is something the implant couldn't get rid of. Ransom must try and recruit fellow hackers in order to combat the vampires and dregs that roam in New York while also getting better guns and armor for the team and himself while also searching through cyberspace for any glues on how to beat the vampires and perhaps gain more allies to aid him in the battles. One annoying thing however about this version of the game is that the text for any dialogue you might have isn't turned on unless you turn the speech off. Aside from that and the rather clunky controls and interface, it still is an interesting little gem of a game with its setting and foes you will be fighting.

SiN Gold

An underrated AND overlooked FPS gem

This is a perfect example of one of those games that get overshadowed by the more popular games, in this case it was overshadowed by Valve's Half-Life. Unlike Half-Life however, you actually get multiple ways to get through some of the levels, like that the very first one with you in the helicopter that can end with either you landing on the roof of Freeport Bank after clearing out the robbers there or the helicopter taking too much damage and having to let you off near the main entrance to the bank. The story is campy, but in a wonderful manner, and you will be facing not only human goons, but also some of the nastiest mutants ever created by mad science. Another interesting thing to note is that if you shoot enemies on certain bodyparts, you will actually see the damage, this was almost unheard of in FPS games at that time.

Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death

Fun budget Judge Dredd shooter

I actually played this game quite sometime before I began reading the comic books, or rather the collections that they released of certain storylines in the Judge Dredd universe, and I had a lot of fun shooting the punks, zombies, vampires and other nasties you encounter in Mega-City One. Not to mention, Toby Longworth who did the voice for Dredd in the game delievers an outstanding performance as the Law himself. Of course, you being a Judge means that you MUST uphold the law and thus you simply can't go around and kill any perp you see, you gotta make them give up by either shooting the guns out of their hands, toss a gas grenade or just make them give up with Dredd saying things like "There's ISO cube with your name on it", "Stop in the name of the law!" and other phrases that might sometimes work into forcing the perps giving up without a struggle, which doesn't happen often by the way. And of course you also have the iconic Lawgiver pistol that every Judge is equipped with, that also comes with several firemodes including ricochet, incendinary, hi explosive and others that can provide a much needed edge in the battle against the lunatics that roam the city. If you're a fan of the Judge Dredd comics and wanted something that is true to the comic books, then you really gotta check this game out as it offers just that.
