Shattered Pixel Dungeon

Great Game

I've been playing this game on phone for years now and can only reccomend it. The dev is really passionate about this game and is always adding new stuff every few weeks/months. The game is hard, but doesn't feel unfair. There are alot of small mechanics that can really save you the day, if you know how to use them. In order to give you a small beginner example: move on the field just behind a door if an enemy is following you. because he moves through the door you get a guranteed surprise hit. This especially helps against enemies with high evasion but low health. The game itself is turn based, but since you only controll 1 character, the game feels very fluent. you give the action command and the game automaticly passed the turns until that action is done (or something happends like a enemy discovered on your way). Because all the levels are randomly generated, no run is the same and you always have to adapt your planned strategy to your findings. The length for a single run is also "just" a few hours at max, which makes it a good game for every now and then.

Outward Definitive Edition

Decent game, just not for everyone

At first I was like "okay, I'm bored, let's give it a try". The first hours were hard, but afterwards I got into the game. It caused old Gothic feelings for me. An open world that somewhat rewards looking left and right while running from A to B, but no AC like open world with tons of markers for all kinds of meaningless stuff. You got a Compass on the top of the screen and a map where you can set some own markers but that doesn't display your current location. You really have to orientate yourself based on your surroundings. Also there is no fast travel (at least without cheats). The combat system is fine, once you get into it. Just don't run mindlessly into enemies and try to berserk them. In stead better stay calm and think about your next step. Character progression works mostly over gear. There are some trainers around that can teach you some tricks and allows you to go for 3 more specialized trees but I haven't found any breaking stuff for my warrior build until now. For mages it may be different. There is no EXP/Level-up System, therefore you can't grind yourself up. Another point that you need to get used to, is that the inventory space (even with the bigger backpacks) is kinda limited. You really have to think about what do you take with you when you leave the town and what you pick up on your journeys. If you really want to run everything clear, you spend alot of time running in order to get the stuff sold. But on the other hand, it isn't necessary. After my first hours I got to a point where I was fine with my income. wealthy enough to not need to pick up every junk but still not that rich that I just buy everything the merchants offer without thinking about money. All in all, it's a decent game, but the devs have made some design decisions that won't please everyone. For me personally, I'm like 25 hours into the game, got lots of stuff to do and I'm motivated to do more of it.

Vagrus - The Riven Realms

Brilliant game for readers

First of all, this is a game for people that like to read and that got a decent english. Besides that, you can invest alot of time into the game ("oh, 3 AM already? DAMN!"). Still in? Allright. There is a big world for you to explore, alot of lore to dig and alot of decisions to be made. Your decisions matter. Sometimes even small events can evolve into epic quests if, and only if, you make the right decisions. If not? Well, sometimes the game tells you that it wasn't the best idea, but more likely it just says "allright boss, as you say" and goes on. The usual gameplay loop, ressouce management, (turn based) fights, trading, etc. isn't something extraordinary but it's solid and enjoyable. Even for someone like me, for whom "turn based" often ends up as red flag. It's the stories between the everyday stuff you discover where the game really shines. Especially because the game got a very deep lore and a fresh post apocalyptic setting. Right now the game tells me I've invested 2 days 18 hours into the current game (even with some hours of them afk) and I still got a full quest book and places where I got the mark on the chart but I haven't seen until now. If you're still unsure, download the prologue and play that one first. It starts very narrow, opens up later on and should give you an impression for the game.

Venetica - Gold Edition

interesting game ruined by bugs

I spend some time into the game. It was fine at all, the story was good and I liked the characters. But after a bug crushed my savegame and I would have to replay sereval hours, I quit without seeing the end of the game. Somewhat sad, but that bug was to serve to be ignored.

Tower of Time

Solid RPG

In order to make it short, it's a great and solid RPG with RTS elements. I ended up with ~36 hours gameplay and I'm satisfied. :) If you like to have a challenge, directly start it on hard difficulty. At least for me the beginning wasn't that easy but later on a big part of the fights just felt like a distraction, because they have become to easy.
