Been playing this for years. This is an incredibly in depth game. There is still new content coming out years after its release. It can be a little challenging to get into at first, but that's the point. This game will force you to think. The art style and music make this game seem like something Tim Burton would make, if he made video games. As I said, this game is not easy but you learn something new every play through. Everything in this game can help you at one point and hurt you at others. You think your safe living near a pig village? Just wait until the full moon and you will reassess that idea. The game doesn't hold your hand. So, if you like that kind of game then give this a chance.
First off, I have never played the original. But, I am aware of the things being said about the beamdog and classic versions etc. Would I be upset if I _had_ played the original? Maybe, but we will never know. One thing that drew me to this game was native linux support. I refuse to use windows and this game works great on my comp. The story is amazing even by todays standards. I have no problem with the UI or newly implemented features. Like I said: never played the original. This game is written better than most movies or TV shows I've ever seen. I love the characters and all the settings. I love being able to start a new game and be a completely different kind of character. So, from my point of view I think it's a great deal! 1. Native linux support 2. Awesome Game 3. only 20 dollars. Which I don't think is asking too much for such a great work of art.
Well, I was excited about this game because I really liked the other enhanced editions made by this company. But I really can't get into this game. I hate the camera controls. Combat is boring to me. I'm just sitting here waiting for my character to have it's turn. The UI over all is just a pain to use. Maybe if I had played this when I originally came out I could have a bit of nostalgia for it. But no. I didn't play other games enhanced by this company way back when, but I still like them. Just doesn't do it for me.
I do not at all mind the modest graphics, they actually get my imagination flowing. There is sooooo much replayability to this title. Don't get too attached to your first few characters though, the game is brutal to those uneducated in how it works. I highly recommend this game to anyone that likes roguelikes, survival games, and lore. :)
Worth playing. Combat can be very satisfying. The story is not really it's strongest point though. The Baldurs Gate games, that this is a successor to, IMO are better games even today. Pillars adds lots of great things that the BG games could have benefited from. But on it's own merits, Pillars doesn't stack up against the older infinity engine games.
I found out abut this game almost right before it was released. I was not a backer for it and I can understand the disappointment some of the backers had. That being said, I think it's quite unique. The combat can be tedious and if you don't like to do lots of reading, as I do, you may want to avoid this game. I felt that the game presented a convincing world and a compelling story line and it has decent re-playability. IMHO I'd say buy it if its on sale.
I honestly think Morrowind is the best game I've ever played. This is because I understand how it works. Many people who come to this game from later entries in the series don't understand it and so, they don't like it. I have no intention of giving anyone a hard time. I would just like to invite people to learn how this game works and then play it. It's a wonderful experience with infinite replay value!
