I was really falling in love with gaming again with this game. I loved exploring the camp areas looking at how much detail they put into the smallest things, allthe possible misseable conversations and interactions. They trully rarely do games like this anymore... And then I got to the meat circus. I don´t know what were they thinking with that section. From what I´ve researcehd, the Xbox version was even worse. Still a master piece 90% of the time. Just ignore the figment gathering at 100% and be ready for the meat circus. You´ll love it.
I bought this game on steam several years ago and had a blast with it. I found myself laughing sometimes I got killed because it was ridiculous in a good way. Just recently I found out the game received a major free update almost 10 years after its release (according to the devs, the update took longer to develop than the game itself). That´s real love from the devs in a time were I stopped buying new games because they feel souless. I just had to buy it here too to preserve it forever.
Maybe the game is too big for its own good. I forgot what the main story was about because of the sidequests. And to start sidequests you need to talk to NPCs, which can be boring since there are lots of them and all of them have more than one dialogue option. It definetly wasn´t the short and relaxing game I was looking for to kill some time. But still a good game.
Besides everything other reviews say (controls, you never have idea where to go, the whip thing) which are all true, there was a moment when I literally yelled gt-fo at my screen. And it was literally in episode 1. So, there´s this guy (who´s literally a pimp) blocking your way to talk to one of his ladies. I don´t know how to make him move so I just grab a bottle and thorw it at him. Then this text on screen appears saying "We do not allow harming animals or innocent civilians. If you continue, the game will end" ... Seriously? You´re telling me this in a shooter? After throwing a bottle to a character that was scripted to shoot me 2 minutes later anyways. The text itself made my wanna quit. But wanna hear the best part? 3 minutes after being scolded by the game for inappropriate behavior, I managed to find the woman who thenproceeds to try and give me a BJ.
-This game is exactly what they say it is. It starts off really easy, but the volcano zone has no business having that spike in difficulty. I even thought "maybe I´m missing some item to progress more easily". After 2 hours exploring, I found them ... well deep in the volcano zone after 20 deaths. -Shileds are useless, their hit area is way too small to be effective 80% of the times. -You´ll find yourself watching walkthroughs to solve some of the puzzles. -Some areas/puzzles require precision-platformer controlls... without being designed for it (kind of like Guacamelee: precision platformer with beat-em-all controlls. If you hated that, don´t try this, and viceversa). I rated it highly because I knew what I was getting into and out of respect for the saga. Not a bad game, it just lures you into thinking it´d be easier than it really is.
