Monster Bash

Blood, Gore, and Pajamas

You clear levels by freeing puppies and kittens from their cages while painting the whole area red with monster blood. The hero is a young kid wearing white body pajamas with blue poky-dots on them and a red baseball cap, not exactly the description of your average monster slayer, but the kid kicked some serious butt. For a kids game it has a lot of gore and carnage (but lets face it, most kids would love that). I always liked this game as a kid and I do like the way you have to "work" to reach the objectives at times. It's still a fun game and old school game fans should get a kick out of it.

Always Sometimes Monsters

YAWN

This game has a lot of dialog, and trust me that isn't a bad thing. I actually love games with dialog and a good storyline. However the dialog in this game is likened to that of a soap opera, most of it is meaningless and ridiculous ongoing. I like being able to make decisions that change the games outcome, but in this game the different "moral choices" don't seem to mean squat in the end. You do get changes, but not ones that really matter. For me, this game was drop dead boring. Good for people who may have a hard time sleeping, because the constant reading the endless scrolls of pointless dialog will get you drowsy in no time. There is my input, try at your own risk. This game is not worth $10, I'd try it for maybe $1 at the most and even that would be a stretch.

Catacombs Pack

It's about time

Wow, seriously? I had searched for these games and I thought I'd never see them again, then lo and behold here they are on GOG. I played these games so many times as a kid and they were a blast (they still are). Any FPS fan would like these old gems. Thanks GOG for bringing back yet another old classic set of games!

King's Quest 4+5+6

Best point and click games out there

Oh the memories! I invested so many hours into these games, passing puzzle after puzzle, and dying countless times along the way (the narrators cracking jokes about how you died always made up for it). These games are well written and great for any age. It's good for kids and at the same time it is not too "kiddy" for adults. The 4th one was not point and click, but still a great game. Anyone who knows what point and click adventures are should know about these games...and recognize that they are best out there. King's quest games, hands down, are the best point and click games to this day. See for yourself!

Quest for Glory 1-5

Great Series of Games

These games were always favorites of mine growing up. I always liked the option of playing 3 different characters and how each players abilities change how you have to complete the game. The 3rd and 4th were the best in my opinion. The revised one was good, but the second one is hard to play having to type in your commands and all (never liked that). The thing I probably like best about them is the nonstop sarcasm and (intentionally) corny punchlines throughout the game, especially when it seems to be at the wrong moment (when you die they post a cheesy joke about it...hilarious). If you like a good action/puzzle game (and a good laugh) give these games a try!

Leisure Suit Larry

Games for late at night

These are what you would call "late night games". Leisure suit Larry games consist of nonstop sexual humor/content, which is fine if that is what you like. It's about a loser who can't get a woman or find romance to save his life and the many adventures and situations he gets himself in while trying to find love. They are funny, if you like dirty humor (not to mention "pixilated nudity"...yes I wrote that laughing). I didn't care for the early ones, but 5 and 6 gave me a good laugh. If you want something dirty and more adult-only then these would be the games to have. They are funny games, give them a try.

Torin's Passage

Good family game

Despite the critical reviews this game gets on occasion, I can say it's worth playing. The game is almost identical to the 7th King's quest game (princeless bride) as far as graqphics go. If you liked that game, you will like this one seeing it's so similar. The game does have a lot of corny jokes, but the abundance of them is part of what made the game so funny. I would say this is definitely a game for younger gamers, but it's still fun for adults to. I am currently playing the game with my kids and it's a blast so far. I haven't had much trouble with the puzzles. It's your basic Sierra point and click adventure game. I'd recommend it for gamers who want something more family friendly. Great game!

Teenagent

Funny at times, but hard to continue

This game does have some good laughs on occasion, which was mainly why I played it as long as I did. However the game itself is hard to stick with due to long cut scenes that cannot be skipped (you have to watch them every time you start the game up) and confusing objectives/puzzles. It's really easy to get stuck and hit dead ends because sometimes it is not clear at all what you have to do. For example, you fall into mud and then before getting out you take the mug out of your pocket, fill it with mud, and then stick it back in your pocket? What in the world? How is that suppose help you know what to do next? It makes no sense! Many times I found myself taking everything out of my inventory and clicking it on everything I saw just to find some kind of clue as to what to do next. I eventually got through it, but it took many hours of frustration to do so. If you can handle the confusion, give it a shot, though I doubt you will enjoy it enough to try and pass the game.

The Cat Lady

Better than expected

I'm giving this a 5 because this game exceeded my expectations so much. As far as the general gameplay goes, the dialog is very long sometimes, the controls are painfully easy, and the objectives are sometimes too obvious. However despite all of that, this game is great. The story is mostly what has drawn me into the game so much. Even when conversations go on for a long amount of time, I'm interested in everything that is said. Even when the game is easy at times, I am eager to complete each task just because I am actually interested in what happens next. It's just that kind of game. The game is not for gamers that are heavy on action, this game focuses more on narrative than it does on action. When you have a conversation, it is more about getting to know the character and understanding how they feel than it is about listening for clues for a certain puzzle. When someone is killed, it is more about bringing out emotion than it is about entertainment. I am not saying all of this is as well as I would like. I guess you would just have to play the game for yourself to see what is so great about it. As far as advisory content goes, it's like your basic R-rated movie. F-word galore, bloody violence and gore, disturbing imagery, and sex/nudity. Definitely would not play in front of kids (for those who are concerned). Great game though, give it a try.

Downfall

Very dark and quite interesting

The game for me so far is quite different than what I am use to playing. I usually played the Sierra adventure games (King's quest, Space Quest, Etc.), which were pretty clean and fit for the family. This game however is an adult game to the core. Graphic violence, sexual content, and the swearing is quite pervasive (F-word used frequently, I mention this on behalf of those with kids). Despite those things, the game is actually quite addicting once you start it up. The story is a bit twisted and dark from what I have seen. I do like the point and click style of the game. The puzzles so far can take some time to get, but they are not so bizarre that they can't be figured out without a walkthrough. I recommend it for adventure gamers that are up for something more gritty, and definitely suggest you put the kids to bed before you play it, because you are going to see some sick and disturbing stuff in this horror classic! Thanks gog.com for giving us another cool adventure game to play.
