I know. A lot of good reviews on here for this game, how could someone give 2 stars for this masterpiece, right? The game does look good and it has everything your run of the mill adventure point and click game has in it. Puzzles, dialog, plot, and nice voice acting. However this has to be one of the most boring games I have ever played, and it takes a lot to make me not like adventure games. The puzzles are mind numbing at times seeing there are rarely clues as to what you need to solve them. There can be a lot of back tracking and reloading when you get stuck. Often I would be stuck and then it would hit me, "Oh...I forgot to do that thing!" and then lo and behold that wasn't the thing I needed, and I was once again stuck wondering what the heck I was supposed to do. The dialog wasn't very interesting, nor was the plot. After finally passing it all I could think was, "Wow, did I actually play this entire game?" If you get it for free, I guess it's worth trying out, but even for 5 cents this game would not be worth a second. Too many mind numbing, frustrating, and bizarre puzzles and storyline that has little direction and fails to motivate the player to keep going. That's my 2 cents, which sadly, is worth more than this game should ever be worth. It's free for a reason, because nobody wants to play it.
Space Quest games were some of the funniest games I ever played. A janitor becoming a space hero is a funny story of itself. But the narrators nonstop humorous dialog and roger's clumsy and dimwitted ways constantly saving his butt (by accident) are always worth the time. Highly recommended!
It takes a lot of patience and observational skills to play games like Myst. You really have to pay attention to every little thing you see in the game and try and figure out how those things can help you throughout. If you are patient and do not get easily frustrated this game just might make your day. For sure one of those unappreciated classics!
