When Gothic was introduced - I was wonderful game in it's time. It offered so many things. Wonderful open world design. NPC were following their daily patterns. You could do so many things right away... It felt so alive and good. I played it at least 15 times. Yes, I'm crazy. Better not tell anyone how much times I played Gothic 2... So what happens when you finish it for the... let's say 3rd time? By then, you have seen all the cracks in the "perfect" game. Sadly there are problems with this game. Not many, but there are problems - 2 big ones: Controls are not good (melee combat as well as magic combat). Play it and you'll understand it. I didn't say terrible controls. I said not good - you can adapt to them but there will be unpleasant situations. (I'll leave them for you to find out because you definitely should play this game despite it's flaws) Second thing is just this: game is, at it's core, unfinished. That can be seen in couple of places quite clearly. But it's nothing extreme. It would be cool to see this game with additional year of development. I know that'll never happen. But man can dream.. For the end: there are 3 very very important patches for this and Gothic 2 game that you really need to install if you want to play them on modern systems. Just search the web for them.
Let's be honest in one thing: Gothic 2 is the best game that Piranha Bytes produced. Everything else is just... not good, not at that level of quality. Why is that... I have no idea. I thought about this more than I would like to admit but now I believe that this is just due to people leaving company. With people also their experience and knowledge leaves. Because of that PB is the company that "never learns from their mistakes". Which is sad... When I think what they did with Gothic 2 after Gothic 1... That will never happen again in our lifetime.. not with Elex 2, not with anything... But let's review this game. Risen 1 is, after Gothic 2 maybe the best thing that PB produced. It's the most "gothic-ish" game that there is. I can't my finger on it but something is missing in this game that prevents it to be even better.. You know - on "gothic" level. It's fine game but.. maybe I'm just too big fan of Gothic 2.... This is an "ok game", it's 4/5. And no, PB didn't learn how to make good melee controls in this game... We can be almost certain that this lack of good melee controls is the trademark of PB.
Because of it's unique story and weirdness. I like the graphics also. I can't find resolution mod :(
PLAY IT FOR THE STORY. IT'S THE BEST. P.S. You should first, IMHO, read couple of things about planescape setting. It will be easier for you to understand couple of things in the game.

First STALKER was great. This is (right now, I didn't finished it yet) better. Just buy it on some sale for like 5 bucks and enjoy. P.S. There is so called "complete" mod (Call of Pripyat Complete). It enhances original textures and such. I'm using it - it's fine. You can use it.... or not. I mean it's 2021 - you probably want some nice graphics..
Soooo... this was my first Fallout and, of course, it was the best Fallout... until I tried Fallout 1. So... what to say, what to say... It's like Skyrim vs Morrowind. Some things you don't know how to compare. So many things are just missing... It doesn't have "soul". If you understand what I'm trying to say... It's just, you know.. so mediocre... 2.5/5
Game is ok. I mean, as someone pointed out "best 3D Fallout" - and he/she's right. Story, dialogue, characters are better than the F3. Everything else - more or less the same. Of course today (2021) you definitely want to use mods for textures (at least).
One of mine first shooters. Great game. So much fun and shooting... And missing with bazooka...
