I didn't mind the graphics, but the gameplay is really boring. There are so many better tower defense games out there.
I don't think this is a game that I'd recommend to people who aren't really into Warhammer 40k. Your movement is slow and clunky, the shooting is serviceable and the level design uninspired. If you are a fan of the franchise, you might get something worthy out of it. If not, better play something else.
For me personally, this is the real diablo. I never enjoyed D3 and D2 lacked in Atmosphere. I like this slower more methodical descend into the depth that lies beneath the cathedral.
I really liked the game. There are certainly deeper titles and I didn't really care about the story, but I found the gameplay very satisfying.
I'm frustrated with this bs. Everyone kept telling me how great this game was, so I bought it despite it being a Roguelike, a genre I avoid like the plague. I haven't played any rythm games before, so I assume I suck at them, that's not really the games fault. What is however the games fault is that it punishes you in a really awkward way for not hitting the beat. If you miss, you won't fire at all. That feels awful! I have a strong dislike when games take control away from you. Usually when I say this, I'm talking about games that force you to slowly walk while some character talks to you, but taking away your ability to shoot in a shooter is on an entirely different level of being annoying! What were they thinking? Why isn't giving you boni for good timing enough, they could even be substantial. I cannot express how much I hate this. Reloading taking multiple button presses is literally the worst idea I ever saw in a shooter. My brain is wired to press reload once and to expect to be able to shoot again. With the shotgun, which holds 6 rounds, you need to press reload for every single shot! I can't get used to that, and to be honest, I don't want to. I don't have much times these days and won't waste it to get good at a game that handles like that. To me personally it's one of the worst games I've played in quite a while. I'm willing to admit, that this might partly be a skill issue. But it's the games job to make you want to get better. It didn't at all. I like the graphics design and the music... everything else I hated.
I liked the art style and it looked kind of funny. The moment I started playing I was annoyed by the controls. It just feels incredibly weird to do anything.
As for most old games, the rating is much too high. I think the Premise of the game is interesting. You don't control your Heroes yourself, but you have to pay bounties so they attack certain structures or enemies. I can understand why people are fond of the game, for me personally, the gameplay is too passive. It can be extremely frustrating when you pay 500 gold for a hero, only for him to immediatelly attack a much stronger enemy, without purchasing potions first... I do like the art style and there where moments I had fun playing it. I just really wouldn't recommend the game to anyone but people who are really into this sort of thing or are nostalgic for it.
Ich liebe wie realistisch die Häuser, Landschaften und die ganze Welt gestaltet ist. Gerade die Häuser und Burgen sind so realistisch, wie ich sie noch nicht in einem Spiel gesehen habe. Burgen haben Mauern, die tatsächlich der Dicke echter Burgmauern entspricht. Die Wandmalereien sehen tatsächlich angemessen, für die Zeit in der das Spiel stattfindet, aus. Ich habe alte Kirchen bei mir in der Gegend gesehen, die genauso aussehen wie die im Spiel. Auch die Landschaften schauen sehr glaubwürdig aus. Das Spiel ist einfach ein Erlebnis. Viele Leute meinen das Gameplay wäre clunky und damit haben sie nicht ganz unrecht, aber mir macht das alles sehr viel Spaß. Für mich greifen alle des Spiels sehr gut ineinander und harmonieren. Für mich eines der besten Spiele aller Zeiten.
I feel I haven't played enough of the game to comment on the story or mission design, but I surely can comment on the pathfinding. It is atrocious... even for its time. I played for an hour and I had so many issues with two cars blocking each other and just standing still. You might think they do that for a few seconds and then automatically fix the issue an move to the area they are told to. But HELL NO, they are just wiggling awkwardly for 10 seconds until they can move again... I know that old games on GOG have usually higher ratings than deserved, but this is nowhere near a 4.1 / 5 even if the rest of the game was excellent.
I really enjoyed my time with this RTS. I had no nostalgia for this title when I bought it on GOG. It has a campy story and fun gameplay. The missions are varied enough to make each exciting and fun. It's dirt cheap when it's on sale. Just treat yourself and buy it!
