Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Actual gem of a game

Nothing more to add - it's as authentic medieval experience as it gets, great RPG, great storyline. There's jankiness in gameplay, but it certainly doesn't detract from the experience.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Flawed, but still good!

After KCD1, the expectations were super high. And Warhorse mostly delivered. The main issue is that the game is almost exactly the same as KCD1, with all the jankiness and quite different than KCD1, with how authentic it is - in short, it's quite a bit less authentic. Lead designer unfortunately admitted himself that consultancy groups interfered with the game and it shows. You can't visit a church (the only interior of a temple you'll see is... a synagogue), there's a woman of every profession imaginable who will tell you how unusual it is for a woman to be in that profession, a very odd token black character, etc. It's very mind-boggling, especially after strong words from Warhorse around KCD1's release. But enough about flaws - the game is great and it's exactly what KCD2 should be - with some unnecessary additions that detract slightly from the experience.

Blood West

Very fun, but also very easy

It's a really good game, but it's a bit too easy - needs some difficulty options!

Last Train Home

Pretty good in general, but a bit easy

The story made the entire game worth it, but the amount of cheese you can do in tactical layer was a bit too much. But overall, very nice game! If you're good, put the difficulty to hardest or even tweak it manually to be harder. I think I played on "normal" (everything being at 100%) and both strategic and tactical layers were quite easy.

RAILGRADE

Amazing puzzle game

I can't believe someone could make such a good mix of OpenTTD, Train Valley, etc. Game flew under my radar, but it's definitely a 5/5 in my books.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

2.0 + Phantom Liberty review

2.0 is a great sendoff to the game after a troubled launch. Phantom Liberty is a very good story packed with good characters and writing. 5/5 overall for the entire game and Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077

I hope shareholders are happy!

Because the players sure are not. Constant crashes, very poor performance, bugs everywhere, lack of content, I could go on - but what's the point? Developers also could go on and make the game playable for the next few months, but a quick buck was more important to them. Wait at least a few months before picking it up, it's currently unplayable basically.

Chicken Police

Quite short, but very, very good

This game took me by surprise - haven't heard of it before. After trying the demo, I decided to buy it (on a different platform) and didn't regret it. The story is good and has you guessing till the end (but makes sense from the beginning), voice acting is top notch, setting is also original. There are some issues with text not matching the voiceover (but the context is always preserved), some puzzles aren't perfect, but it's all minor issues compared to the very solid foundation of great writing, story and voice acting. Very recommended!

The Outer Worlds

Gamebreaking technical problems

I played the game a fair bit, but couldn't finish - the game can't load any of the saves for some reason - maybe it's GoG Galaxy, but it never happened before. I doubt I'll replay the 17 hours I spent on it so far. But to the point - how's the game? Plot has a few holes and stupid stuff from the get go. You're rescued from a ship just to be taken to a secret asteroid base of a mad scientist. You're then dropped down onto a planet to meet a guy who's supposed to meet you - but he dies and you take his place. But his ship is broken (why is it broken? Don't know) so you have to steal The Vital Part from one of the factions on the planet. Why is it the only place you can get this part and it's in walking distance? Because the plot wants it. So after you make enemies with one of the factions, you take off and go to... the secret asteroid base. Why send you to the planet in the first place? Don't know. But then you're free to go wherever. Writing is okay, but characters are as bland as they go. Your companions are as milquetoast as they get, the only interesting one was Vicar Max. Maybe the other two I didn't meet yet are good, but one is a literal robot (who might be more human than the rest for all I know). Most people you meet are females with coloured hair for some reason - the world is painted as bleak, without necessities like food or water, but I guess hair dye is in ample supply. Speaking of the world - corporations are the new government, hellbent on just having as much power as they can get, feeding their own people be damned. Propaganda is everywhere, nonsensical decisions are being made that benefit nobody and people are poor and starving, working at factories that produce stuff nobody needs. We've doing space communism now I guess! Graphics are amazing, art design of everything is pretty great, voice acting and music are also great. Gameplay itself is fine, there's weapons to choose from and they feel like from an FPS. But too bad I can't finish the game.

BATTLETECH

A lazy cash grab, avoid

This is the most disappointing game I've played and will play in 2018. Let's just get to the bullet points, since I don't want to take too much time. Pros: - New BattleTech game for all the starved fans - Management sphere is good, as long as it works (and when it doesn't, enjoy mercs with constant low morale or mechs with no armor). tl;dr, the game lacks variety and you will get bored before you'll finish the main story. There's simply not enough content to keep you interested and more likely than not, you'll encounter a bug that will make your game impossible to complete anyway. Cons: - Gameplay is purely RNG based - Missions are very repetitive and sometimes buggy - Only 4 mechs under command, severely limiting the tactical options available - Game takes place in years where technology isn't too advanced - low amount of weapons and mechs available - Story is laughable and you have zero control over anything - Many inconsistencies and idiotic things in the story - Characters are extremely bland and uninteresting - Unimpressive graphics that kills your CPU and GPU - game is poorly optimized - Camera works in a very predictable manner - it will almost always pan away from the action, so you have to manually inspect your mechs to see who got hit and where - Completing a turn requires you to sit through extremely long animations coupled with waiting times - this makes the game drag on forever - I could probably go on and on, but that's not really the point in this case. Fun fact - the previous review I submitted wasn't accepted, for some reason. Way to treat a backer who believed in you from day 1!
