Overall great game
This game plays similar to X-Com or Jagged Alliance-style games where you have the "tactical" part and the "strategic" part. The tactical part is the missions where you run around killing commies (yay!) in a pausable real time. The strategic part is where you see the big map, manage your scarce resources and the wellbeing of your soldiers, manage your train and respond to (usually) bad news. Tactical part: The combat is technically real-time but depending on your autopause settings this can almost play like a turn-based game. Don't expect elaborate options and smart AI as in Jagged Alliance, the combat is much simpler. It is still enjoyable though, and frankly, the learning curve of Jagged Alliance is too steep for the general public. Strategic part: This is where the game shines. You are following an interesting story inspired by real events. The atmosphere is very anxiety-inducing - looming food shortages, constantly running out of fuel for the train, not enough time, winter...all together is a great mix for a survival-style game. There are shortcomings too. The difficulty is too easy for seasoned players, so I recommend putting everything to max. Also, the interactions between soldiers is minimal and could have been tapped into more to create more interesting situations. Overall however, this still deserves 5 stars as the atmosphere felt during the strategic part is what you will remember for quite some time...
