Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel

A Class of its Own.

I believe wholeheartedly Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is first-class in this ever-growing genre of survivor-like games. From presentation, gameplay, and overall feel, this game just knows how to entrap a brotha into this genre's classic gameplay loop. Coming along with this loop is a Norse/Viking aesthetic that’s done perfectly. So, let's break down what you'll experience in this jawn. After booting up the game, you'll be greeted with familiar starting characters. The berserker, a confrontational brotha; and as well the sorceress, who’s in the trade of using range. There are other characters you'll be able to unlock as you complete realms, and they offer varying strategies. On your first realm, you'll be greeted with enemies circling around you while you can either direct your character to wherever for their auto attacks or let them automatically choose the closest enemy to kill. You're equipped with dash and weapon arts (your weapon's ultimate), both tied to a cooldown. Enemies you kill will occasionally drop purple gems that allows you to level up. Each glow up got you choosing from upgrading/adding your character's abilities or a growing Norse pantheon to aid in your massacre. There's also a timer that's in tandem with challenges that once completed will allow you to fight and boom that realm's boss. This will throughline for the whole game What elevates this gameplay from its peers is a skill tree for both your character and the gods you'll use in each run. A gold economy that aids in this agenda. Being able to respect quite easily. Along with in-game challenges and trophies that you can aim for as you progress. Voice acting in this game is short and sweet; only being used for grunts, screams, and coo soundbites. The only thing I wish for is a more complete story, a 3D viewer, and character skins that change the colors of their respective attacks. Overall, this game is fun and addicting masterclass in its genre that not enough people are talking enough.
