Ok so... I like the atmosphere and the visuals. Really, I do! I also must add that by default I HATE soulslike games because they are a completely stupid and broken genre that is all about trial and error - the worst kind of gameplay ever. Still, from time to time I give them a chance to prove me wrong. I tried to like Remnant for the same reason as I tried to like this one. The bad controls and the lack of any kind of information is just ruining the game completely (not counting in the terrible soulslike gameplay for now).
It would be an OK game that has nothing really new or interesting to offer but it is completely ruined by terrible gameplay mechanics and controls. It looks acceptable only yet it is so unoptimized that it drops FPS even on strong hardware. That alone can easily sway people from playing. Then comes the fixed camera, the idiotic sneak system and the atrociously terrible combat. Not to mention that RNG all around which means that loot-based early quests can become a serious pain. For example the crafting station is broken and needs repairs - which needs parts. You may find these right around the corner in some boxes and whatnot BUT for example in my game the RNG ruined it all. I had to go and explore and search other areas because of this, being not ready but still forced to. Others finished that quest in the first 5 minutes of arriving to Pah. I didn't find those parts for an hour and then I just died because apparently I was stuck at a place without any way of going back where I die without a gas mask. Right. Nicely planned and written, right? No thanks.
Okay so... I am kinda into these sort of playground games but overall I got bored about half into the tutorial which was already boring, I already got sick people and some infestation on ship (yes, fixed tutorial and followed everything). I didn't even know what to do with things and any basic knowledge but already the game was messing with me. No thanks.
Would be an okay game without the terrible trial and error puzzles and the technical issues I had (like not being able to move between places). The story is okay but full of plot holes and it's unfinished terribly. 4 years later (!!!) they released Still Life 2 which is supposedly the rest of the story but... just how can you release a game that is missing at least half of the story and the first half that you get is full of errors and plot holes.... Also the gameplay is very unpolished (we saw awesomeness way before, like Broken Sword), the typical "you can't use/take things that are not relevant at the moment by story" and the terribly made puzzles where the only way to proceed is to be lucky (liek the stupid laser robot puzzle). Overall a great disappointment.
Okay, so this one is a sort of roguelike game (not really, because you do not have the SAME character that keeps its skills or upgrades after death) which is fine and the game itself is okay. However this is only a cheap attempt to milk a popular franchise, namely the Lovecraft theme. If anyone ever read just a few of his stories knows that his work is not about run'n'gun at all. There are no skeletons or zombies waking up in the cemetary (apart from ONE occation which is not really just any skeleton but that's another story), no "waves of enemy goo attack" or anything similar. In fact I think there are only a handful of times in his WHOLE WORK when a gun is fired ever. Anyway the game is okay, the spiky traps are very annoying and trolling because unfairly hidden behind other parts of scenery. Also I doubt that anyone would go and put dozens of spike traps (along with its machinery parts) in an abandoned cemetary.... You can't put money or info (the two currencies of the game) into the shared storage for future characters, only items. So if you start again, even if you had a fortune on another character you'll have nothing but the items in storage.
I grew up on Pinball Fantasies (and Dreams, Illusions) and played sometime this too, with the rest of the "not so good ones" like Kiss Pinball and such. But I remembered it's great and... it's a big disappointment. Also the DOXBox settings are bad, there is terrible tearing and stuttering from time to time (no, my PC is not weak....).
Too much TD (which we had thousands of times already) and the promised "action shooter TD" gameplay is nowhere. Already on the beginning it becomes a chore to build the towers and then mess with the rest. I get it that we are garbage because of the unlockable upgrades but come on, we are supposed to be a highly advanced alien race who probably kept doing this for who knows how long! Overall it was free so whatever but .... it's not even worth my time.
