I recently bought this game, years after it's release, and enjoyed every minute of it. While I considered "The beast chronicles" a bit lame and not remotely as funny as the first game, BoUT2 brings me right back to the good old days. What I enjoy the most about this series is the humour. It is packed full of nerdy cultural references, from Star Wars to Terry Pratchetts Diskworld, from J.R. Tolkien to RL-RPG. These references make you listen and watch closely to find all of them, just like easter eggs. I was completely drawn into the game with its lovely characters. It is very long, gave me several afternoons of cosy socks & hot tea playing fun. It is a bit slower than its predecessor, yes, but since I too have aged I still find it very enjoyable. The only bug I encountered was a sound bug, where the voices suddenly sounded like they came from far away or out of a tin bucket. That occurred a few times throuout the game, but didn't bother me.
This games was long anticipated and when it finally came out I bought it right away. Technically, it's amazing: breathtaking backgrounds, sublime music, dense atmosphere. It is with more puzzles and less hidden object scenes, plus it's lees creepy than the first part, which I missed a bit, but I guess that's just personal taste. But overall, the game stumbles upon its overcomplexity. The devs tried to top their previous "True Fear" game and they tried too hard. The game is very, very long - in fact, it's so long that it became a bit annoying and hard to keep your curiosity while playing. At one point I just wanted to know the end of the story. Said story is complex and confused and it gets harder and harder to keep track with the big picture, because clues are so detailed. After the end of game 1 I just wanted to know what's behind Holly and her sister(s) and who the creepy girl is, but now you find yourself digging in an endless labyrinth of notes, diary entries, and photos. The game left a bit, well, unsatisfied regarding the story line. I would recommend it, because it still is a marvellous game, but after playing it I got an idea, why it took Goblinz so terribly long to finish it. This is certainly one ambitous piece of work, and in some places - unfortunately - too ambitious.
