This game is equal parts Metroidvania and equal parts boss-rush. Towards the end, you get about 1 boss fight every 10 minutes. My biggest complaint of the game is the dialogue dumps. Every 15-30 minutes you'll be subject to a 10-15 minute dialogue dump. Instead of sporadically giving information throughout, they would just suddenly hit you with a ton of dialogue, much of which you aren't even in. Overall, a strong B+ game with too many boss fights and not enough Metroidvania.
I wouldn't recommend this game unless you played the first one and want to re-experience the game anew. The tone is very childish. You wake up in an alien world and not only does everyone speak English, but you spend the whole game being a sassy-pants for no reason.
I was a bit underwhelmed by this game. While pretty, there isn't really much to interact with in the environment. Off the top of my head, I can only recall 4 puzzles in the game, and 3 of them can easily be fudged through as they tell you immediately when something was incorrect. However, the voice acting was great. Particularly Rory, who was fantastic throughout.
I have yet to experience a Daedalic game that didn't disappoint. The models are beyond ugly, though the backgrounds are nice enough. The story is often incoherent. Be prepared to try every item on everything. Thankfully, the game has a way to highlight intractables, so there is no pixel-hunting.
tl;dr: Worth the money. Ps & Cs: + Story doesn't pull punches + Hold spacebar to see intractable objects, prevents pixel hunting + Fairly nice artwork + A few key moments where you get to make tough decisions + Click to advance conversations without missing anything + Everything is voice acted - Some nonsensical item combinations - Appears to be an episode 1, however that remains unclear - A few spots in the game are just exposition dumps rather than having you learn organically Overall, this was a solid game. The story was heavier than your normal Point & Click combining Post-apocalyptic, and Sci-Fi. The ending is a bit abrupt, hinting at a squeal/episode 2. The voice acting is good enough, and every line of dialog and item description is voiced. You will find a few of your (unfortunately) standard nonsensical item combinations, but overall it's fairly straight forward. You won't find much in the way of puzzles. I'd say it was worth the money. 9/10.
This game is a rather intriguing piece. You're kind of left to your own devices in the beginning and it's really only at about the 2 hour mark that the game becomes enjoyable at all. Once you've got your scripting tool, the game really lets you cut loose with what you can and can't do. I was breaking all kinds of stuff. I was rich, I could break into anywhere, and I never had to sleep again. I program as a hobby, not as a job, so this game was a great excuse to sit down and actually do some programming that I was able to use (in game at least). P's & C's: + Interesting art style + Probably the most programming I've ever done in a game + The really let you think outside the box in terms of what can and can't be interacted with - Story was dumb and boring - End was very unsatisfying - Worst camera controls in gaming history tl;dr: Do you like to program, or have you ever found yourself without anything practical to program? If so, buy this game.
