System Shock

Problems with Difficulty

First of I never played the original for real, so can't say how true it holds to the original. But I am for one a person who believes a remake is a place to modernize and to have something that can be evaluated by its own merrits. A big problem with difficulty in games comes to mind when it is storybased. Some chalanges are even nonsensical storywise. Starting the game you get teh vibe that when you die, it is over, so you save at the right times. Just as you would in many oldschool shooter, like quake or duke nukem for example. Now this really gives the survival horror aspects some real punch until you find the respawn pod!. That kinda destroys it but hey, you can set the difficulty meaning you could life without that if you wanted to, but to those settings I come back later. Now first pet pieves, at certain moments even after activating you get a gameover screen if you die on a boss or in specific levels, now this would also be somewhat okay, if it wouldn't mean actually game over and if those where varied! But it is the same game over screen again and again!. So now you've got a random spike in difficulty that doesn't really mesh with the difficulty setting. Also the difficultysettings are hard to diterment beforehand, meaning that you need to restart the whole run if you notice that something is to complicated. For example at one level I couldn't get past a door because I've only would get the code after beating an Cyberspace level that was impossible to me!. So I ended up meshing the codepad until I accidently got the right combination. So what to do in a long game, where you just end up wanting to see the story trough? Well cheating! Of course this game has no cheats!. You are making a remake, call it retro, and have no cheats? I know it is uncommen for todays games to have cheats but c'mon!. Let me have some fun!. I am not at trying to make my Master Thesis! There is no reason to not let me cheat!. Ah I've got more problems but alas the limit is reached.

DUSK

Mediocre

This game is middle of the road, the graphcis are but ugly but enjoyable. The gameplay is simple but working, double welding is fun but other than that? Oh yeah you can make backflips, which are not ading the gameplay at all and could be left out, they could aided the gameplay but it is no possible to do this decent with unity, beliefe me I tried. The AI is dumb, really dumb, like they know theexact path to you, but also get stucked onto everything? And are not fun to kill? Seriously I found the ai of doom or duke nukem way more enjoyable and that was also stupid as all hell. How do I die in this game? Well rats! First of! They aren't small but somehow your bullets dont register much if you don't hit them dead on. I have some ideas why this is, but that can be done better in unity. And second, cheap deaths. Like you die and next time you know to do it better, but let us say we have an exam for example, we register the questions but don't know how to answer them, why? Because we fergot to learn the answers or to understand the concept behind you. Dusk ideas of a tough question is to ask you some super tricky question that you never thought to learn because your prof said you will learn it third semester but you are in first. I mean where is the enjoyment of making mistakes and learning from them if you are forced to fail. So yeah 90% of the time the game is to easy and 10% impossible. Also the sound design, I would have played more if I had those rocking tunes troughout the gameplay. But they where used sparingly and mostly there was some ambient drowning, droowning? (you know what I mean). All in all when I play this game I think to myself, I could make it better myself. I also can come up with more interesting controls, like Kangaroo controls which I am working on those days, and it is more fun already. There are better games out now, if you want something new instead of playing quake the millionst time, for example Immortal Redneck or Ion Fury.

The Outer Worlds

The Gameplay SUCKS!

Starts out pretty good, you can use higher ground to fight enemies by abbusing their abysmal AI. Which already means it is pretty bad but hey at least you can have a little fun, fighting them. Especially since they have a deadly aim, like perfect aiming. You can hide behind things and just knock them out one after each other once they run behin your cover. Lovely stuff. But very soon this isn't possible anymore. You cannot work strategily, you have to tank everything out. Get super duper higfh armor and just act as a bullet sponge or get eaten by all the super aggresive creatures. It almost tries to be more of an action oriented shooter but it isn't really designed for this. May I compare this to Borderlands? Which is like super non stop action nonsense but it knows it and builts its gameplay elements around that. But this here is supposed to be a little bit like fallout, and fallout was all about strategy and killing enemies from the distance. Seriously I remember how awesome it was to get some decent headshots in new vegas!. Yes this games combat system is worse than the one of New Vegas. And if someone tells me that this game is about the story and not about the gameplay than I can tell you that you have no clue what videogames mean, if you want story only than read a book! Seriously I read books, they can be so much better at times. Books are all about the story, games are all about gameplay, either the story enhances the gameplay or the story is told trough the gameplay (that is when videogames truly become fine art), gameplay doesn't need to be fun technically, but that goes way to deep here. I would have prefered this story as an adventure game with puzzle solving, oh another thing, new vegas had some puzzles, this here, not at all. Now what about the story? Forget about it, it is pretty mediocre, fun for a little bit, but would be better told in movie form. I mean I've heard in the US many people are so in debt, companies might own them. But europe? Nope!.

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

This is Art

This is the kind of Art I truly love, so introspective, close to the Edge, the right mood that I love, a kinda hopeless mood that still obtains some last resembles of hope. The Moment you realize that all you have done is worht nothing, not even to you and it is all over, and you just accept your fate of living some live and seeing how this is going down. No ambitions other than the ones you make along the way. It is hard to explain the mood but I love it as it is the mood I personaly love to paint into my own artworks. But the game is so long, which for me is perfect, but you have to accept it. Actually I think the lenght is perfect, best to play it in one sitting!. Yeah that sound crazy! But seriously it gets you really in the mood, I also recommend starting the game drunk, but keep some energy drinks on your side. Nah of course I don't "recommend" that, I am just saying, it would be the perfect mood. And if the game keeps on going, that is perfect, life keeps on going! That is Art!. Well now you play art in a way that makes the experience allone art, so it is artception hahah, bad pun. If I ever would have to be stuck somewhere for eternity, I think I would want it to be Disco Elysium. Whatever that says about me.

Parkitect

Roller Coaster Tycoon the Modern Edition

This is RCT, like one to one from the awkward windows over the coaster building to the terraforming!. It is exactly the same, only better!. Ever where bored because you reached the goal in 3 months and sitll had to wait until year 2? Tons of Windows that clutter the screen with their openness? Upgraded to a 4K or still use your HD Monitor for 10 years now meaning that you had to change your resolution? Raged over the lack of speed controls? Wanted to easily mod new stuff in it? Just find the loveable pixelated sprites way to dated for you taste? Love low poly like but yet like it to have a 4K finish to them? Well this is the game for you!. Parkitect is just the first and second RCT games only more polished and with a nice new 3D Engine. If I had to complain over something it is that I cannot ride the rides!. Yes, I know, it never was as good as we made belief 20 years ago and it doesn't work that well with that grafik style, but just make it a mod!. So noone sees it as an unpolished feature of the main game.^^

Railroad Tycoon 3

this game is not an improvment

This game is supposed to be an improvment? I actually have a harder time to find the menus!. The UI is an improvment in my eyes, but only in concept, the execution is rather bad. The graphics are really dull! Like seriously, yeah cool 3D Grafics but it looks so dull and the models do not age well at all. Laying tracks is kinda bad, but when the game restricts you that the tracks need to be connected to your old ones it really gets messy. I had no clue what I was supposed to do, I only wanted to lay it over the river via a bridge, but nope super werird and clunky. The whole curve prediction is jusyt terrible. The vanilla scenario cards are also terrible, all are in a specific time period that makes it really hard to play if you want to play in another, you cannot set your opponents as you want and even if those two are okay with you than you cannot built where you want on the map. Like yeah in the precessor it was the same but there where at least plenty. Also the dificulty, like in the second game in this series I could easily make money even on harder dificulties. When I connected two major cities I had at least half a train full, but now we only have like 1 passanger car!. Like wut? How am I supposed to make progress. I tried to make a little farm line on the side but it didn't even picked up anything, it just stand there! Empty! for over a year! next to the farm!. This game is mostly terrible but with good ideas. I rather play the 2.

Hyper Light Drifter

Those visuals

Yeah I really hate it when games just use pixelart just because it is cool, this game actually does make use of it. The lower fidelity actually helps in creating a atmosphere of mysterie and terror of what had happened to this world. The gameplay is also pretty decent, it could be smoother and some places but still pretty good. Even trough the Devs are lying to you! Don't use the controller! Keyboard and Mousecontrols are so much more suited for this game. I wouldn't have mentioned it if the devs wouldn't be so arrogent to assume my preferences. But this game looses one star because the implementation is pretty bad! First of all, the gamespeed is bound to the rendertime! Meaning if you don't reach full 60fps (or 30fps if you set it to that) the game will run slower!. This is a big NONO! Never do that!. I also had some grafikal glitches where animals spawn in the air and some audio bugs that made annoying sounds in the menus. But nothing game breaking which is incredible for how unskilled the programmers must have been. Also it runs like ass, this is the kind of game that should run flawlesly on an 1997 win95 machine!. But it has framedrops for seamingly no reason at an top of the line machine of 2017!. I have an i7 6700k and a gtx 1080 ti! Well how do you fix it? You restard the game! So the game is obviously not doing its job of propper runtime optimization. I assume that they coded this thing in C++ and fergot to free some resources after using them. So even so your card does NOTHING! It is getting cluttered with empty tasks!. But as I heard it is only in certain regions. But yeah, buy this game, have fun with this game, it could have been a perfect rating, the rest of the game totally saves the incompentency of the programmers!. And I hope that they will learn out of it because otherwise this is a really good game.

Armikrog

Do not play this game!

But you can watch it on youtube if you like. Yeah the music is kickass, and the only selling point if you ask me. The visuals are awesome at times, and really crappy on others. The cutscenes start strong but kinda get really B-Movie over time, in a bad way!. Not to speeking the biggest part of the story is explained in simple drawings with nonsense language over it. Which I find funny, in the very end of the game you get to listen to them in plain english, but way trough? You just understood everything fine and it only gets rid of the wonder and awe you feel when exploring something so very foreign to you. And the gameplay is pretty bad, now I say point and clicks don't really have good gameplay in that sense, so the gameplay itself seems to be one of the better ones for this genre. But normaly you get allot of story trough the gameplay or at least character development. In Armikrog, you get nothing! So I can't even measure the gameplay in the realms of point in click games, I have to measure it as a pure puzzle game, in which case, the puzzles are horrible!. The story is also very very dumb, and boring, and you never learn allot anyway. So yeah just watch the 4 or 5 good cutscenes on youtube and be done with it.

Minit

Endiring and Captivating

This is a game made for Older players. Why? Because we don't have as much time, this is the perfekt game to waste 5 minutes on it. But! You can waste hours on it too. The whole game concept is pretty cute and keeps the game fresh and fast paste in a sense. It isn't actually fast paste but you get the sense of it. The visuals and music are awesome. The music is very repitious but since you die every minute you won't even notice, and how could you? This bumping tunes! Man those tunes!. But! This game might not click with you!. And this is fine, not every game needs to click with you. But I think this games achives what it tries out to be!. And for this price tag you can't really complain! (Okay I guess you are always allowed to complain, improment is paramount, but c'mon!)

The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse

this is a fun game

there are many rouge like out there like this, but I find this one to be very easy to get in and the style just lovely enough to keep playing. The sticker system, the weapon upgrades, the death system all are fun parts. Also fun is that there are certain rules in any dungeon such as that food doesn't restore health but waiting does, yeeah COD Dungeon Crawler Edition!. Or that your stickers are disabled so you have a harder time withouth your helpfull sticker. I recommand playing this game on the easiest dificulty first. I am a good player and I think this game can be kinda hard, fair but hard. Lukely you can always change the dificulty midgame if you find it to easy. Furthermore there is a small story, nothing to big but it really pumps you up playing till the end. replay value is high on this game, well it is all about the replay. Who doesn't like replaying a game than this one is not for you. But if you like you can quite well spent over 50hours in this game if you like.
