This isn't the best CRPG ever made. But it's pretty good. The game is split into three acts, each set in its own game map and related submaps. The first act is excellent. If the game could maintain this quality throughout, it would deserve all the praise it's getting. Unfortunately, the game begins to go downhill starting in the second act, but here it's still quite good. But right after the second act's climax, and running into the third, it's basically a total mess. You are suddenly introduced to a new goal and set loose into the third map which has tons of bugs, is quite overwhelming, unoptimized, and half-baked. Thus, the great force pushing you through the first half of the game suddenly disappears. In addition, the developers include here a large number of progressive social-political statements and themes which were heretofore (largely) absent. However, this may not be an issue for you if you are so inclined. Regardless, this all adds up to a lot of resistance. Luckily, the momentum gained in the first act should be enough to just push the player through to the finish line. Replay-wise, there are a great number of fun and interesting character builds which give it a fair bit of replayability. However, even the great first act grows tedious after a handful of runs through it. It's not world-shattering, but a fun game. I'd recommend picking it up on sale if you like CRPGs
If you're looking for your next RPG epic, look elsewhere. However, this is is a simple and very charming experience. Easy going fairy tale fantasy atmosphere, just enough depth to keep you engaged while not having so much that you need to check a wiki or worry about build choices overmuch. A joy to play.
I played this game from release for a few years and it was great. It was perhaps my favorite game. A worthy successor to EU3. However Paradox ruined this game, and all of their subsequent releases with a horrible unrelenting greed. Each update include half implemented DLC mechanics that break the game unless you fork out $20 to buy what is little more than a small content patch. Horrendous DLC aside, they've just changed the game so much now. Its hardly the game I used to play. You can no longer play on older (better) versions so now I'm just done. This isn't a game you own. Its a game that paradox lends you for a few years until they destroy it. Even I wanted to play again, I'm 15 or so DLCs behind now. I'm not paying the cost of the game thrice over so I can continue playing something I bought years ago. I will never buy another Paradox game.
Its a pretty okay and fun metroidvania style platformer, but not amazing. Pros: The art is great to look at The movement of the character is fun and fluid, especially when you unlock more of the abilities Cons: The game is quite short The level design is very samey, with the "dungeon levels" being all the same in the sense of being a seperate area from the map where you reach one point in the level then have to complete an auto scrolling section The enemy variation is abysmal The interaction with the enemies consists mostly of just spamming the attack button since your attacks auto lock on. (It gets mixed up somewhat though halfway through) Overall I'd say pick it up on sale if you can. If you are a big fan of this style of platformer than its probably worth it for you even at full price
