Exactly the kind of FPS I was looking for lately. This is a great mix of exploration, gunplay and stealth. Made it to chapter 2 so far, exploring pretty much everything I could. I have been enjoying the firearms; how needing to balance low shot counts and slow reloads means you really want to make sure your shots are accurate. Enemies can cut you down quickly if you try that with a revolver right in front of them. Melee, as an option to save some ammo, works fine when you are just making stealthy strikes, but I found it to be a bit jank when trying to fight. Blows land off your crosshair, making head hits difficult, and enemies can often lunge past your swings and avoid damage entirely. I will have to add more here once I get farther in the game, which I am looking forward to!
I have some annoyances with the controls, which ended my first play-session negatively. They can't be rebound on the controller in-game. Now, for me that put the dodge button on RB, and it is your only means of defense. Couple that with the fact that the i-frames are quite brief; well, that had me late on the timing whenever performing another action at the same time. I would have prefered to move it to LT. After that frustrating learning curve that had my right hand set in an odd position, I was starting to have a good time. The characters are brief, but endearing. I quite liked coming across them moving about the world themselves and having short conversations whenever I found one of them while traversing old areas. I have yet to finished the game at time of writing, but I'm hooked and I think I will be hunting down every secret area I can, just to see what extra encounters I can trigger.
