For me this was an Ok first person story adventure intended for VR headsets. Perhaps it would be better in VR though I played on a standard screen. The game has an unfinished feel as though they ran out of time to complete it and therefore left things unresolved. Potential remains to fill out the story and experience to make it much more satisfying. A second play through allows you to take your time to enjoy the weirdness and discover multiple endings. The game was enjoyable enough that I started over a couple of times to finish exploring. PROS: Attractive visuals and some interesting game mechanics offer potential. Not a long game to complete and some replay value to finish collecting things and story you missed on first play through. CONS: Short game. Unresolved story is frustrating. Some 'wall collision' bugs force you to reload to continue. Game paths you wanted to explore are cut off if you travel a different path first.
Just finished Tron 2.0 and enjoyed it so much was poking around on the reviews to see what others thought. In my personal games list I wrote: "Very enjoyable first person shooter with some RPG elements for leveling character and weapons. Great sound and visual style. Linear game play but some replay-ability for those who wish to track down every last "build point" - might make sense when you play the game)." A previous reviewer recorded a number of issues they had with the game and I was sorry to read that. I had a different experience (everyone will!) and wanted to include my take as a recent player. The quick save option (good old games - new game auto saves suck! haha) was my saviour as I loved trying different things or jumping into different sketchy places and then quickly reloading and moving on. I found the different weapon types were interesting and I used them all in different circumstances. I actually liked how the same Energy was used to power everything and I had to manage that during my battles. I would usually start battles with some early power hits with weapons that used Energy and then go back to using Disc. The Tron Disk also became my go-to weapon and I often had to use the right mouse button to call it back when it went off course. That even became a strategy to call it back for repeated hits on bosses. Other apps for Stealth, Shield or Melee I would equip rarely but could be fun at times. Boss fights rarely required healing or energy for me (though some times I timed a dash during Boss weapon cool down). I searched out a sheltered "sniping" spot and kept launching Disc until it was over! For Corruption infection, I would remove infected apps then do "anti-virus". I found most Boss fights had a gimmick required that would defeat them more quickly but generally just blasting them until it was over did the trick. Overall I found the game holds up very well in visual, sound and game play and I enjoyed every minute of my experience.
Considering how big a fan I was of Apogee games back in the early days, I can't believe I missed Secret Agent! I saw it here on GOG and knew I had to try it. I am very glad I did. This is retro Apogee platforming at its finest. Simple, responsive keyboard control. Clean, bright, pixelated graphics. Awesome cheesy speaker sounds. This is what GOG releases are all about. I would rate this as an E10 title due to the shooting of pixelated human figures and robots. Fair amount of retro love for this one online. If you find you like this one, you owe it to yourself to look into the rest of Apogee's back catalog such as Commander Keen. Couple of other points re: things mentioned in other posts: - This game is not "free" online. You may find Episode 1 'free' as it was/is shareware. To buy the complete package from the source at 3D Realms seems to be about $1 more than here on GOG right now. - The game was not $3.99 originally. It was $30 +shp from Apogee as is still noted in the order screen in-game. Shareware disks may have been $3.99, but that was for the 'free" part! - Don't "Get Duke Nukem instead". Get Duke Nukem also! - For high score junkies: I have only finished Episode 1 so far but doing my best to destroy all enemies and collect all goodies I ended with a score of 1, 092, 750. Anyone know what a perfect high score is? Happy item hunting!
Saw this game mentioned some time ago in PC Gamer magazine and couldn't wait to download and try it when I saw it on GoG. Just finshed the main game and starting the Hobo King add-on. Short and sweet: This is one of the most orginal and entertaining adventure games I have ever played. To me it seems the developers put in a lot of care and attention to detail. It is a perfect little gem. The artwork is beautiful. The puzzles may not be the hardest but some are not easy and all are fun to figure out. The game world is alive and a joy to explore. For those who just race to the finish in a game, you may find this short. For those who like to explore and experience all the puzzles, sights and quests on offer, this game is well worth the asking price. Plus, with an E10 rating, you can enjoy solving this one with your little one. Can't say that about most of the current games out there!
