The remaster has been great, I'm not done yet nor have I played it beforehand - The controls, movement, shooting, platforming, updated graphics, combo of PS/Dreamcast versions, being able to look all the way up and down, and more is fantastic. Definitely worth the wait The improvements and suggestions: - First would be to have your hitbox smaller, you get hit by small projectiles that should be easy to dodge. This is also noticeable when you run into walls you think you would be able to jump on and it feels your hitbox prevents you from reaching certain areas easier. This might be due to maps being altered - The PC version of the game had extra animations for your death type, and voicelines for the spec ops guy you play as. Things like these should be added in and or optional - The addition of quick saving, or at least the option to choose between Checkpoints and quick saving - The ability to change your HUD between modern and classsic, modern being have less on screen - more information in and about your inventory, also an objective/message journal instead of always needing to return to Ramses in case you forget where to go - optional choice between having different ammo types or the blue weapon power pickups Besides these small suggestions I am loving the game and definitely recommend it
I have liked what I've played so far(even if briefly) but I am encountering a strange glitch when I enter the room with the red key. I am able to pick up the red key but when i try to venture farther into the room it stops and says "please wait, or loading" and my game just sits there while something is waiting to load in. The first time this happened an enemy was able to kill me because my character was frozen and the second time it happened, i had killed all enemies and waited several minutes to no avail. I know this is just a demo but definitely need to report this strange bug, I am on Windows 10 and my PC runs the game perfectly, i am using a NVIDIA card if that makes any difference. Also the game started with 0% mouse movement making it so I couldn't even look around, raising the percent fixed the issue but it is odd to start with zero movement
Legend of Amberland is a retro 80s/90s First Person Party RPG in the vein of Might and Magic, Wizardy, Eye of the Beholder. The game is a fantastic introduction to this classic style of RPG that you don't see very often anymore. The gameplay starts with you making your band of 7 heroes(with the option of less), then you set off into the world. The openworld is tile based so every movement counts as time past(shorter inside). There are no random encounters, all enemies can be seen before combat. Combat is fast turnbased, no slow Final Fantasy sitting through minute long animations As solid as Amberland is, I would have liked a bit more depth to it. The game emulates Eye of the Beholder more than MnM. Amberland definitely needs cutscenes with a big intro, middle scenes and ending. Though there are characters, none are memorable and are basic. You never get the real sense of looming danger, or being taunted by a big bag villain or force. There is no voice acting but that goes with the classic style but I would much prefer even charming early 90s style. Not that the world is empty but there are zero roaming friendly/neutral NPCs outside of enemies(they only move when you are close). The inside of anything is barren outside of chests, gems, switches, crystal balls, etc. The only character interaction are with doors that have a person behind it that will give you info or are quest important. I never saw any type of interior furniture, searchable items like a crate, wall, barrel, tomb, etc. You can only engage in combat point blank, no ranged attacks like in MnM. I would prefer limitations on your classes, i.e. pure mages can't use heavy armor. The game needs MORE animations and higher detailed characters and environments. In Amberland's case, the entire game just needs MORE MORE MORE Overall a good game, and if a sequel or another game in the series is made I HIGHLY suggest the developer take massive notes from MnM World of Xeen, MnM 6-8, and Arena/Daggerfall
