Blood 2: The Blood Group

No sir, I didn't like it

The game looks fine, the music is fine, the gore is nice and it has the potential, unfortunately, it's a mess, I remember the first blood was really punishing, specially starting a new game, but the more you progressed the more badass you felt, that doesn't happen here, the enemies get always the upper hand, tehy know where you are even if you haven't seen them, they shoot fast and with almost perfect accuracy using hit-skin weapons, it's incredibly easy to die even in comparison with the first game. But what really frustrated me was that the game runs too fast, when I first started I chose the caleb campaign ajnd in teh first room i was killed in a second, barely able to move, I tried using the nvidia configuration to force 60fps, i tried changing the autoexec file, even tried dgvoodoo2, but nothing helps except opening the in-game console and typing maxfps 60, the problem is I have to do it every time i start the game, load a save or change to another level, and when you die every 2 minutes (at best) it gets tiresome, really fast. I really wanted to enjoy this game, but I just can't, maybe if they fixed the framerate issues so I could spam quicksave/load to my heart's content

I did not expect that

Well, I finally reached the end of the journey, whatever I can say about the game has been said before,, I really enjoyed it, I liked the ending, except that it was a bit too sudden, like in a plot device, but I'll forgive it, after all this series was great, and I don't thimnk I need to recommend it since I'll assume you played through the other entries and this is a must

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

It has not aged well

The atmosphere is very cool, graphics are dated, but as someone that has played the previous 3 games I got not much to complain on this front, the story looks interesting and the music sets the mood, unfortunately that doesn't save it from being infuriating, Tank controls were always bad, but I cpuld live with them, what I can't tolerate is that enemies seem to materialize in front of you, really, those dogs pop up right in the middle of the screen, inches away from me, leaving me miliseconds to aim and shoot, it's like if the game forgot to spawn the enemies up until the last second, it is obvious the devs wanted to go more action oriented with this title, but it appears that they also want you to take it slowly like in the previous games After I got too frustrated with Edward's campaign I decided to try Aline's and is much much worse, in the second room you are shown that the beasts can be disintegrated by light, but in the next room the game goes "just kidding, now you can only scare them a little", but them the lightbeam from the flashlight does not always "hit" at what you're aiming at, leaving you open for a free hit, you can try to run, but running endlessly is not the best way to set up a game where you need to explore small rooms infested with enemies I know I am biased because just a couple of weeks ago I finished Alan Wake so I probably was expecting too much from a game this old, but at the end of the day I only got one question "am I having fun?" if the answer is negative is time to stop, and this not happened to me while playing alone in the dark 1 and 2, 3 tho... is a story for another day

Beyond Divinity

I think the game is trolling me

I remember the first game being unbalanced and unpolished, but this one really frustrated me beyond my breakpoint, At one point I got stuck very early on, when I killed a rat to retrieve a bone and the damn thing dropped just by the door, not allowing me to get out of the cell or pick it up, it was tiime to start a new game because who is gonna save in the first 5 minutes of a game? not me I granted it to the game "that flop was due to my stupidity" and retried, this time with a mighty wizard, except that after 3 casts my mana was gone, so much fun, imagine a room full of eniemes Nonetheless I pressed on, and then I met, Fergus, your first "boss" battle, he is just is 2 levels above you and decimates you in 3 hits, maybe 4 if you are lucky, not even my death knight "tank" could take him, not when his meIee attacks are as underwhelming as my magic (did I mention Fergus fully heals himself after almost dying?), the only thing that worked was to get away from him and return to my cell to rest and keep coming back for more pain, when I finally killed him the game froze and forced me to do a hard reboot At this point I was not having any fun so I decided to buck it and register here my tragic tale, goodbye beyond divinity, it was not nice knowing you

Got me hooked

I recommend this one, it's pretty good What I love - Nice visuals, simple, but colorful with quite a variety of enviroments - The music is nice - 9 weapons to choose from, you can pick 2 of them in any combination, plus you can upgrade them by choosing one of 2 upgrades per weapon level, and you can change them without charge, there's a lot of room fopr experimentation - customize the diffciulty choosing buffs for your enemies in the shrine, in case the default difficulty is too easy for you (you get extra xp and currency for doing so) - The story got me hooked, you are in the dark for the most part, trying to piece together the story from the flavor text of items and the conversations, I really liked that detail The not so good, this is mostly subjective - I'm not the fastest trigger out there (and my depth perception is bad) so there are a couple of trial that I just couldn't master , even with fully upgraded weapons, but the first prize is always a secret skill, so it didn't bother me that much - you cannot revisit stages, except for some that work like gauntlets and are meant to serve as farming/testing grounds - no captions or subtitles are a huge loss for those with hearing impairement since a lot of exposition is narrated as you progress through the stages The controversial: - some may say is repetitive, but I remember the long hours farming Mephisto in diablo 2 and let me tell you, this is nothing compared to that, if it was repetitive, I didn't notice, propbably because I was too busy having fun

Armed and Dangerous®

FUN, as games should be

Short version: Play it, it's really fun, you'll have to tweak around to get it running properly, but after that it works fine. The good: - Lots of humor of the british kind, with some jokes that would probably offend some people in the age of SJWs, but hey, if you are not up for it you can always grab a mirror and laugh at your dead soul - Nice variety of locations. - A reasonable amount of collectables that enable cheats and other extra functions. - it's an spectacle shooter, you can blow up a lot of things. - Some crazy weapons, no other game gives you a shark launcher. - you can attach mines to the enemies, sending them into a panic. The bad: - The physics are locked to the framerate, so you need to use vertical sync at no more than 60Hz or you'll end up running like Speedy Gonzales, unable to do anything. The game doesn't have a vsync option and the configuration files cannot be opened with your standard text editor. fortunately graphic cards have options to force vsync nowadays. The ugly: - Mouse aiming is too sensitive, even at minimun settings the mouse goes wild, if you have a gaming mouse you can lower the DPI to fix this issue, otherwise, I hope you can handle it. - mission 18 (defend lily's home) is hard, really hard , after 1 hour of retries I had to consult a walkthrough and apparently you can lower the amount of zeppelin spawns if you destroy the first zeps in certain order, I'm not sure if that is a glitch or not, but it saved my ass, I was ready to throw the towel. - The graphics are dated, and the facial animation could probably give nightmares to some, but that's a given in a game as old as this one. -The story is serviceable, but works more like an accesory to the humor and gameplay -The music is also kind of forgettable At the end I do recommend this game, so get going and bring "death to the salad eaters!"

AquaNox 2: Revelation

More like 2.5 stars

Never played this one until now, and how does it hold up? poorly Pros: - The fights can be enjoyable - The story is interesting enough - Some of the weapons are just fantastic, with room to experiment and improve your underwater tactics - bonus objectives during main missions grant juicy rewards that can give you an edge in combat (unfortunately this is also part of the cons) Cons: - Each mission takes place in huge areas that are mostly empty, just miles upon miles of underwater desert - Each main mission has bonus objectives, but you are not told what or where those objectives are so you have to scout miles upon miles of underwater desert just to find said bonus - There is no map so prepare to get lost in an uderwater desert - The main character is dumb as a rock, I'll never forget May Ling saying "take me" (in a sexual way) and William responding "you're making me nervous" , even though he previously acknowledged her interest in him while talking to another NPC. Also he is oblivious to the plot, and talks to every stranger like if they were life-long friends, you would expect better for a man that set off to see the world and have adventures. He is the main character and is the least interesting person in the story If you decide to pick up this game do yourself a favor: get a walkthrough if you want to get those bonus objectives, otherwise just forget about them and enjoy the combat and the story

Spec Ops: The Line

Wow...

Well, I'm late to the party but I'm gonna give my opinion anyway. This game has to be the best spunkgargleweewee out there, full of memorable moments, the action is over the top which helps to drive the message of the story, it's a game that you should play at least once in your life, even if you're not into shooters. The graphics are good, the music is nice, and the game is almost bug-free ( I got stuck in the scenary once), I'll definetively play it again in the future.

Alan Wake

Thrilling

This game is fantastic, the narrative is captivating and the story is pretty good, even if by the end you don't get all the answers, but it feels just right. The graphics are gorgeous sound desing is pretty good Mouse + keybnboard controls are responsive and esay to grasp Finished it after 17 hours with no bugs or glitches, died at least 30 times, but had a lot of fun My only complaint is that the "collectables" are just there for show, it would be so cool if you gained a little bit of extra stamina or health with each collected thermos, or, unlock another ending if you got all the manuscript pages, adding to the replayability of the game

Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy 1+2+3

A product of its time

Beware newcomers, this game is only recommended to those who can't resist the curiosity or nostalgia forr the next reasons: - Early 3D is ugly, really ugly - tank controls - you don't have quick action buttons, you have to go to your character screen and select what action you want to perform (picking up items that are clearly in the open is ·automatic" - No questog/journal/map - there are some cheap deaths and apparenttly you can even screw youerself over by miusing items I tried it just out of curiosity , and even with all its issues I had fun, only at the very last puzzle (the altar) I struggled not knowing what to do and had to look up the answer, for the rest of the game I just had to pay attention and the answer somehow came to me, and that is quite satisfying, that said, I still don't know that the jug of water or the pot of stew are for If you decide to brave it here are some tips: - save frequently and over several slots - if it's edible eat it, you start with 20 hp but you can get many more ( I had 45 at one point) - don't be afraid to reload a save if things don't go too well (ie: taking too much damage in a single fight or wasting too much ammo because aiming is an oddyssey by itself) - pay close attention to the backgrounds, like in eraly 3D games, if it looks fishy, it is fishy - use the rebingding function of DOSbox (ctrl+F1) to remap the controls to something more to your liking (I poersonally went for WASD controls) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, ah, also there are two campaigns, but I think I'll save the second run for another time
